Day Before Valentines Day

"May? Ano? Sasama ka ba?" Sha asks. They had planned months back that they would have an 'Anti-Valentines Day", but unfortunately for Maymay, Cole got blinded by Sha's cuteness.

"Hay naku girl, ewan ko sayo." Maymay grumpily answers back.

Sha walks towards her, "Sorry na May.. it just happened, you know? We started sa 'malay mo, malay ko', and now, wala ng malay-malay, sure na sure na!" she happily squeals.

Maymay just pouts, "Even still, bros before hoes."

"Hoy! Di naman hoe si Cole, at di rin naman tayo bros."

"Eh...di, chicks before dicks."

"Bakit May? Sisiw ka na ngayon?" Sha plays around, but unfortunately, she did not get any reaction from Maymay—at all. "Galit ka talaga?" Sha starts to sound sad, "Okay, sige, cancel ko na yung first date namin ni Cole." she grabs her phone, "first Valentines pa naman.. naku.. Bahala na" she sighs, as she stares at Maymay who is just looking at her with a straight face.

"Hello Cole? Sorry 'by, cancel date natin--"

Sha did not get to finish her sentence because Maymay grabs the phone from her, "Hi Cole! Oo, galit ako, pero hay naku! If I have to spend Valentine's Day tomorrow on my own, make sure mo lang na worth it ang pagiging bitter at alone ko bukas! Alagaan mo si Sha, ha?" Maymay said as she now stares at a glossy-eyed Sha before ending the call.

Maymay returns the phone to her friend, "Oh, sige.. dahil mag-isa ako bukas, libre mo ang Valentines natin ngayon." she sighs.

"Okay! Libre ni Cole, gagamitin ko credit card niya!" She laughs, and Maymay joins shortly after. She might as well take advantage of the situation tonight, because tomorrow, she will spend the actual Valentine 's Day, alone.

Maymay is NBSB also known as, 'no boyfriend since birth'. Why? Because no one passes her standards, and she belittles herself so much. She is a very smart woman, and at the age of 25--she actually achieved a lot already. She owns a house, drives her own car, and has a stable career. All that is really missing is a boyfriend--a love life. Maymay lacks self-confidence, having dark skin complexion is something she has been struggling since she was a child. It's not like she wants to be as light skin as a foreigner, but people keep on teasing her because of it. She even tried whitening soaps, lotions and supplements. However, nothing worked, so she just gave up.

However, her lack of luck when it comes to romance is the complete opposite of her social life. She still manages to go out with her friends and maintains her social circle. But after hitting 23, she has noticed that most of her friends started dating, and she remains single. Her last strand of hope was actually Sha, but even the 'ShaCole' ship is sailing successfully--which leaves poor Maymay in a cold empty house on Valentine's Day.

"This is worse than being alone on Christmas day or New Year, because then, I still had my family to bother." she sighs. "And now, I am all alone in this huge house with my date for the night—tequila." she laughs, though, her laugh sounded hollow and empty.
