JAKE ABBEY WAS born on the 9th of December in the wake of a snowstorm in Minnesota. His mother was a ripe age of 19 and his father was a year younger than her. Abigail and Preston Abbey were married only a few months prior to Jakes delivery into the world. They were down to pennies, but would always find a way to support their respective habits.

Sleep, Drugs, Kid.

They always worked through the day in that order, up until Jake had to start school. Then school would be pushed after Jake. At 15, Jake is still bullied for being the quiet and mysterious kid of the crowd. He couldn't help it. He didn't really speak to anyone besides Marco, his only friend who understood him.

His parents ignored him unless they were yelling at him for moving their substances elsewhere instead of on the kitchen counter where he tried to eat from time to time. His father would hit him too, out of anger for nothing in which Jake was responsible for. He once saw his father grab a knife from the kitchen and point it at his mother. Later on that night, Jake picked up that same knife with a ghost of a smile. He loved how something so deadly could feel so weightless.

The Abbey's move to Nevada during Jakes freshman year of high school. Still silent, he ventured through his courses as he tried to ignore the rumors and banter thrown at him. He's was called the worst of names, apparently, people who didn't speak had something to hide. Jake once broke a kids arm after they tried to shove him into a locker. After that, everyone kept their distance, but his story never stopped evolving as time proceeded.

First, it was breaking the guy's arm, then it escalated to Jake slamming the guys head into the locker before breaking his arm-people even said that Jake was caught doing stealing from one of the guys lockers, resulting in the fight. The list went on and on, and Jake tried his best to block it out.

The end of sophomore year, someone spoke to him. Actually spoke to him like a human being. As the young man was hurrying to exit his last period class, he bumped into someone very roughly, knocking over the young girl's textbooks and papers. She muttered a string of "sorry's" as she fumbled to retrieve the pages from the scuffed floors of the main hallway. Jake slowly helped her, not being able to find coherent words to say.

She was beautiful.

Everyone always had something rude to say to him, except for her. Jake Abbey had a crush-no-a fascination with a very shy girl. She had curly dull black hair and thick-framed glasses. She was slim, and always wore a sweater that was bigger than her size. Her arms were occupied by textbooks constantly, or the occasional book of poetry from the library. Jake had noticed these little things, and he desperately wanted to speak to her.

He was frightened. What does someone like him say after all the rumors that have been told of him? She must have heard of them, and he hoped she didn't believe one. Jake had found out her name was Athena from class one day. It turns out, the young girl sat directly behind him the entire year without his knowledge. He was always in a world of his own.
