"SHE JUST FINISHED her shift. I can let her know you're waiting-" Allie asserts rapidly, running off before the anxious Jake Abbey could protest.
His hands shook profusely. He couldn't help it, he realized. Every time he would do that deed, he'd always shake like an addict afterward. It was normal.
"No-I can't see him after earlier-I can't-" Athena states chopping as Allie spoke quickly to her while simultaneously pulling her frame along.
Athena stopped immediately upon seeing her beau. Yes, her beau. She had thought about Jake Abbey non stop ever since their first date. The curly haired brunette was convinced that she liked the tall, mysteriously handsome man who sat at booth eight every day promptly at six a.m at Augustine's...
"Did you get my flowers?" He simply asked a pink tinted cheeked Athena as her lips parted.
"I did. Thank you for that." She replied weakly, a small smile replacing her frazzled features.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go somewhere? It is your birthday-" he began before Athena turned nervous all over again.
"-I wish I could, Jake. Unfortunately, I have to go home-" she begins before her blonde best friend elbowed her harshly in the side.
"Ouch-what the fuck, Allie," the woman seethed lowly, and boy did that just send Jake into another world.
Seeing the young girl curse was riveting. She seemed so innocent, but there she was. Spitting profanities at her best friend for only nudging her side. Jake swallowed back the words he wanted to tell the girl.
"Alright. Maybe I can walk you home then."
Athena's eyes widen slightly as she readjusts her purse strap on her shoulder.
"Didn't you drive here?"
"I don't mind walking back, Thee."
Athena Williams almost died right there in front of a charming Jake Abbey. Thee. Only Allie called her that. The only person she actually loved with every fiber in her being. Her best friend. Although Allie was the only person who called her that name, Athena absolutely adored the expression tumbling off of Jake's lips. It was almost like he was the one who coined the name for her.
"Are you sure? I don't want to put you out of your way-"
"-never. I don't mind."
With a modest nod, Athena gives a small smile and a quiet goodbye to a tired Allie as she glides past Jake. Her cheeks were always flushed around the man, no matter how much she tried to keep her raging emotions inside.
Jake and Athena walked side by side down the sidewalk of Main Street in the small town of Ike, Nevada. A few passerby's eyed the couple oddly without a word as silent cars passed them by. The night was minutes near, the orange sun setting in the distance as it cast a beautiful hue in the violet colored sky.
