"TWO SLICES OF apple pie and a cup of joe, that's all." The beady-eyed old man ordered to the awkward Athena Williams, her dull brown eyes hiding behind her black rimmed glasses as she quickly wrote the order down.
"I'll be back with that, just a moment."
With the order fresh in her mind, she quickly sliced two generous pieces of pie and placed them on a plate for the gentleman. After, she grabbed the fresh pot of coffee and mug with one hand and made her way back to the customer. With a small smile, she placed the order in front of him and poured the steaming coffee into the porcelain mug.
"I ain't never see you not working, Williams!" a voice from behind her calls, causing the girl to stumble briefly. Her action makes the coffee splash from the mug and onto the brown table.
"I'm sorry, sir-" she quickly apologizes to the older man, grabbing napkins from her apron and cleaning the spill before turning around to the voice.
There he stood, the tall brood surrounded by the flock of mean girls. Matthew Cole was an absolute asshole, to be blunt-and his female entourage wasn't any much brighter than himself. The group would come in almost daily and belittle Athena, all because she was the daughter of the town's asshole. Maybe Matthew and Athena had something in common after all.
"Excuse me, I have to get through." Athena sputtered, her glasses slightly slipping down the bridge of her nose as she cleared her throat lowly, avoiding eye contact.
"Well, I guess you're gonna have to push your way through, aren't you?"
"Alright, get out Cole!" Nancy bellows across the diner, her grey curls up in a messy bun as her hands sat sternly in her hips.
Nancy was the owner of the diner which was called Augustine's, the name of her young son who passed away from an accidental overdose. Athena was out of work for a while because of it, as Nancy closed the place down for a few weeks. It was a huge tragedy; especially since it occupied a very, very small town in Nevada.
"I'll see you around, scrub." He smirks, putting his arms around the two snobs he always enters with.
Athena openly sniffled, trying her hardest to keep back the tears that wanted to flow freely. Today was a blessing, being that Nancy stopped him before he could tease her. For crying out loud, they just recently graduated High School. Athena thought that maybe he'd grow out of his childish tendencies.
"Take a hike, Athena. You've been here long enough." Nancy bellows and gives a reassuring smile.
"Go get some rest, I'll see you tomorrow."

Athena Williams was a 20-year-old loner. She was shy, awkward, and the most introverted individual in the small town of Ike, Nevada. She enjoyed working because she got away from her ungrateful, batshit crazy father who was a hypocrite walking on legs.
