Soulmate AU where you and your soul mate are reborn through history until you live happily ever after
Something always managed to keep the two of you apart. You lived so many lives together that you couldn't even remember the first time you met him, your soul mate. There were times when you thought that this might be it, this might be your happy ending, but it never was. And on to the next life you went.
Sometimes you were simple farmers, sometimes politicians, sometimes you wandered the galaxy, and sometimes you settled down somewhere you could call home. And this time... this time it didn't matter what you were because he was a Jedi. General Kenobi to be specific.
You knew him all to well to even hope for a happy ending with this life. Once he pledged his life to a cause, an order, he was loyal to the cost of death. You knew the Jedi Code forbade attachments, and you knew he would never break that code, not even for you.
You'd only been a senator for a few years now, but you were careful to keep track of him from the shadows. You watched him finish up Anakin Skywalker's training, battle in the Clone Wars, and earn the rank of Jedi Master. As far as you knew, though, he didn't know about your presence. You hadn't felt the need to reach out to him this time, and he didn't know every senator from every planet.
It was better this way. He wasn't tempted to break the code, and you were saved a load of heartbreak. There would be no tearful goodbyes as you were torn apart yet again. No, this time you would watch and rejoice in all that he accomplished on his own.
Of course, life had different ideas for you. After several attacks on your life, one such attack even happening on Coruscant, it was decided you needed protection. Jedi protection. Your heart nearly stopped when you were sitting in your chambers, waiting for your Jedi bodyguard to appear, and in walked General Kenobi.
His eyes widened, and he said your name breathlessly, running to pull you into his arms. Unable to control yourself, you threw your arms around his neck, holding him tight. It had been so long since the two of you had been together, and your heart ached, knowing it couldn't last.
"You're the senator I'm guarding?" he asked without letting go.
You nodded wordlessly, tears of joy coming to your eyes.
He pulled back slight with a grin on his face, still keeping his hands on your arm. "This is wonderful. I had no idea you... How long have you been a senator?"
"Five years," you said quietly, drinking in the sight of his blue eyes.
"Five years..." he echoed. "And it still took us this long to find each other?"
"It doesn't matter." You pulled away quickly, finally regaining your self-control. "We can't be together. Not like this."
"(Y/N), please. We'll think of something."
"No." You shook your head, pacing around your room. "You're a Jedi. A relationship is forbidden."
"I'll leave the Order then." He said it so quickly, so suddenly that you were taken aback. But when you stopped and studied his face, you could see the pain in his eyes as he said it.
With a grim smile, you shook your head again. "I can't ask you to do that. I know how much the Order means to you."
"What about how much you mean to me?"
You blinked back tears that threatened to form. Why was life so cruel? "You shouldn't say things like that, Obi-Wan."
"But I will anyway." He stepped forward, gently grabbing hold of you again. He lifted your chin up so that you couldn't look anywhere except for him, your knight in shining armor, your soulmate. "I love you."
"And I you," you said, your voice barely a whisper.
"Then that is all that matters."
He leaned down and pressed a light kiss to your lips. You closed your eyes, wishing the moment would last forever even though you knew it couldn't.
He leaned his forehead against yours. "We could keep this a secret."
"For how long? How long would you allow yourself to betray the Jedi Code?"
"Then I shall inform the Council of my intent to leave first thing tomorrow."
You pulled away. "Obi-Wan, listen to yourself. You would never forgive yourself for leaving like this."
"Then this is how it is to be? You're a senator, and I'm your Jedi guardian."
You nodded solemnly. "It's how it must be."
"Very well." There was a gleam in his eyes, though. "We'll be together in the next life, love. I promise you that."
Hello! This was my first reader insert, so I hope it wasn't too terrible or anything. For those of you reading who enjoy the Reylo story line I have going on, don't worry. I still have plenty of ideas for that. One of my best friends requested this shot, so I thought I'd take a small break from Rey and Ben and go ahead and write this. So I hope you enjoyed this for now, and I'll be back soon with more!
