Let's be honest, with every new trio of starters, there's always one that just doesn't measure up to the other two. In the case of the gen 6 starters, that Pokemon was Delphox. Due to several factors, including poor design and type effectiveness, Delphox fell flat compared to Greninja and Chesnaught. Char and I have compiled a list of the top five reasons why Delphox is a terrible Pokemon. Keep in mind that this is our own opinion, and we are fans of Fennekin and Braixen, just not Delphox. Now that being said, let's get into the countdown.

5. Game performance

I personally never used a Delphox while playing Pokemon X or Y since I was always a Greninja fan, but I do know some people who have and they all said it was a terrible decision. And looking at how the game progresses, it's easy to see why. You'll probably have a Delphox right around the Shalour gym battle, so that makes that particular battle easy. Delphox also does well against Ramos and Wulfric, with its fire-type moves being super effective against Ramos' grass-types and Wulfric's ice-types and does decently well against Valerie. However, Delphox struggles against Olympia's psychic-types, Malva's fire-types, Siebold's water-types, and its fire-type moves aren't very effective against Diantha's Tyrantrum or Goodra, and it's psychic-type moves won't do much against her Gourgeist or Mega Gardevoir. Where Delphox struggles most of all is against Team Flare. While psychic moves do well against poison-types, Team Flare also uses a lot of dark-type Pokemon, which have a huge advantage over psychic-types like Delphox. Team Flare loves Houndour and Houndoom, and Delphox gets completely blocked by this Pokemon, making the Team Flare arc incredibly difficult if you chose a Fennekin as your starter.

4. Type disadvantage/bad defensive stats

Delphox suffers the unfortunate state of being the only starter from the gen 6 trio that has a typing that's ineffective against another. That, of course, is Greninja's dark-typing. Even though Greninja's dark-typing isn't very strong against Chesnaught's fighting-typing and Chesnaught's fighting-typing isn't very effective against Delphox's psychic-typing, you can still do a little damage. This isn't for Delphox, however, making the disadvantage that much greater.

Another problem that arises from Delphox's weakness to dark-type moves is that most dark-type moves are physical. With Delphox's base defense being a pathetic 72, this makes it difficult to survive any sort of physical dark-type attack. This means that Delphox is extremely vulnerable to moves like Sucker Punch, so if you battle a Pokemon with this move using Delphox....good luck.

3: Even GameFreak thinks Delphox is trash

So I'm sure all of you have heard of Pokken Tournament. If you haven't basically it's like street fighter but with Pokémon instead. Anyways I'm Pokken there are many Pokémon you can pick to fight with and one of them is Braixen. Notice How GameFreak put Braixen instead of Delphox. Now this may not mean that GameFreak doesn't like Delphox but if you think about it, Braixen is the only fighter besides Pikachu that's a middle evolution. The rest of them are all fully evolved. So by the looks of it GameFreak must not like Delphox for it to include Braixen instead of Delphox. Not only that but notice how Braixen has gotten more exposure than Delphox. They never evolved Serena's Braixen, Delphox was hardly showed in the anime at all, and Braixen in general is shown more.

4:Ruining a great evolution line

Delphox has to be the worst evolution disappointment. First let's look at the evolution line it comes from, which is the Fenniken line. So first, it begins with Fenniken, the most adorable Pokémon ever don't @ me. Then it evolves into Braixen, the best middle evolution and again don't @ me. Braixen has a really good design, it really pulls off being a fire-witch fox. So Braixen probable made you exited about what the final evolution would be like it did to me. Then it evolves and...... everything goes downhill........ Like, I thought Braixen would evolve into something like this

But instead we got Delphox. yay.........

Number 1: Design (btw both me and Ash will be doing number 1)

GameFreak, why..... Just, why....
You had one job, and that was to make good design for the final evolution for the fire Kalos starter. Did you get that job done good? No, no you did not. Seriously GameFreak, what the hell were you thinking. Just look at it!

 Just look at it!

Yeah...um...what the hell is wrong with Delphox's ears? How does it even hear with all that fur in there? Or is it actually deaf? It's probably deaf. Also, why did they make the body look feminine but the face (at least from the front, though I don't have a picture of that) look more masculine?

Could we talk about the fact that it's wearing a tunic made entirely of fur!? I don't really mind when a Pokémon is made to look like it has clothes on but this is just too much. Also, it's tail doesn't even look it's even real, like someone just threw a random tail in there to make it look like a fox. The wand looks dumb as well. I know Braixen has it too but Braixen at least keeps it in its tail and makes it work into its design. Delphox, on the other hand, just looks stupid. Like where the hell does that stick come from, where do you even keep it? All in all Delphox has a shit design and whoever made it really needs to see a doctor.
