"Min? Min, are you there?" The six-year-old you called out to your friend, in hopes that he would join you in a game one late afternoon. You went deeper and deeper into the forest in search for your best friend, your only friend. You pushed tree braches away from your face as you ventured further. You didn't really need much light to go through the forest as you have been there many many times to play with your best friend after school on many many days since you were four.

Suddenly, you heard a rustling of leaves that were on the ground and the cracking of twigs. Sounds like footsteps, you thought. You turned your head, only to find your best friend walking towards you.

"Min!" You ran forward and bent down to hug your best friend. His soft, silky brown fur against your neck felt ticklish, but it was familiar so it didn't bother you. Min suggled his head in the crook of your neck while you ran your fingers through his fur. Yes, your best friend was an animal, a wolf. A wolf pup. "I've missed you, Min! Sorry I couldn't visit you over the weekends, I played with my cousins! You know, Chanyeol and Baekhyun."

Min nodded as if he knew what you were talking about and he gave a small whine to show that he had missed you too.

All of a sudden, you heard a loud, booming voice from a distance. You looked up and saw a dark figure approaching you and Min.

"Hey, Kris! I see one!" You realised that the man pointed to you and Min with the hand that was not holding a gun. You gasped out loud and let go of Min. Your heart was beating so hard and fast you could hear it.

"Min! Hunters!" you semi-whispered, semi-shouted to Min, warning him of the danger up front. Min nudged you with his nose and pointed it to the direction towards your home, telling you to run away. You froze, you couldn't just leave Min like this to get killed! But you knew you couldn't defend yourself, let alone Min too. You quickly got up and ran as quickly as yor little legs would carry you out of the forest. Tears welled up in your eyes, thinking of what would happen to Min. Then, you heard a gun shot...

-----------------------

You shot up from bed, realising that your eyes were wet. You have been having that same dream for some nights, ever since you started the new year in high school. You realised it was also time to wake up for school, so you dragged your sleep-deprived body to the bathroom. You switched on the bathroom lights and you looked into the mirror. You saw an image of a dark brown, animal-like figure flash across the mirror. You got startled and took a step back, eyes widened in fear. You rubbed your eyes, looked at the mirror, then repeated to make sure that you were merely seeing things. You told yourself it was just because of the dream, but why only now?

As you were putting on your uniform, you heard a low bark from a distance. You immediately recognised that bark and you peered outside the window. Actually, it was just your neighbour's dog that just so happened to sound like him. You placed your hand on your chest and took deep breaths to calm yourslef down. How were all these so coincidental? Why only today? You repeatedly asked yourself these questions, even as you made your way to school.

That reccuring dream wasn't just a dream. It was a replay of what had happened to you and Min when you were younger. But you didn't know what happened to your friend, and you couldn't and haven't gone back to check on  him for the past ten years, because apparently and so annoyingly, your neighbours told your parents about you running into the forest in the middle of the night when you were only six. So, you were banned from going into the forest since then. [Screw you protective parents.]

---------------------------

You came into class and slid into your seat, behind your best friend and in front of your crush, Kim Minseok, the cool, handsome and smart. The only thing that ticks you off about this guy was when he taps on your chair with his pen, or occasionally kicks your chair lightly and flips your hair, otherwise, he was completely daydream-worthy. You would just turn behind and click your tongue at him, when on the inside, your heart was fluttering and doing somersaults because he actually noticed you.

That day after school when you arrived home, you ate dinner and spent some time with your family before they all called it a day. But you couldn't fall asleep so easily. You were constantly thinking about your dream and the reflection and the bark in the morning. You tried to think of why you only experienced this now and not last time when you have met Min a long time ago. Something or someone definately had something to do with it. You were really curious about what happened to Min after that gunshot. You decided that you were going to meet him, so you went out that night to look for him, whether dead or not.

You put on a comfy sweatshirt and pants climbed out your window in the middle of the night. You ran towards the pitch dark forest, but you had your phone to act as a torchlight just incase. As you made your way through the thick forest, you were reminded of the many memories with that wolf pup. The games you played, the days of just lying on the grass and talking ((of course you did the talking)), those precious memories. You ventured further into the forest to reach your destination. The open field was revealed behind many branches and the visualization of you and Min playing just raced across your vision, even if the forest was so dark.

"Min? Are you there? Please say you are. Wherever you are, I really miss you, Min. I'm sorry we haven't met in a forever, but I'm here now. So, if you're out there, please." You called out, hoping that he would hear you. You took baby steps to the centre of the field as images of you and Min flooded your mind. You stood under the open night sky, with the dim light of the moon and stars shining down, waiting for a response from your friend.

Just then, you heard a small whine and the sound of panting coming from your side before you felt familiar soft fur brush against your hand. There he was, beside you. You didn't need the light to know it was him, you just knew. He grew much bigger, stronger and more muscular. You bent down, only to take him into your embrace once again, stroking the fur that you missed. Min snuggled closer under your arm and you buried you face in his fur, with the foresty scent filling your nose. You let go of Min, but one arm still around him, bringing him down to lay next to you. You were just so happy he was alive.

"I'm so sorry, Min, it has been too long since I last saw you. I got caught sneaking into the forest ten years ago. I guess I can come now because, it's just a teenager's time to rebel sometimes, you know?" you told Min. "I'm just s happy that you're alive, Min. I thought you got killed by those hunters." You turned to face your furry friend, and hugged him again. You wanted to tell him about so many things, but you decided to start from your crush. "So there's this guy in class sitting behind me, he's like so cool and handsome and cute at the same time I can't take it! I really really like him, but I don't have the guts to tell him; I don't think I ever will. Aish, I'm so stupid." You brought your hands to face to cover it, only to get licks at the back of your hands. Your eyes met with Min's, and he looks like he wants to tell you something, but this wolf just couldn't deliver his feelings to you.

That night, at home, you couldn't help but get reminded of that look on Min's face and how his eyes bore into yours. You wouldn't understand what he was trying to tell you even if he tries, because he could never talk and that made you really sad and puzzled that you'd never know what your friend was feeling.
