It's 6 a.m. and I am laying wide awake in my bed. My mind keeps running back to how strange Luke had acted on the beach last night. It was like he was about to kiss me. I never had thought romantically about Luke before. I had one boy friend and I was eleven. It didnt work out. I never have had a first kiss. Never had anyone like me in that way I guess. I never have felt like it made me different than other girls or deprived. Most girls at my old high school had boy friends or best friends. I didnt need one of those though. I had my boys. Ashton Luke Michael and Calum. The whole school made fun of us especially me. We were the outcasts and have no friends whatsoever. They call me a slut for being friends with those dumb boys. I usually would just laugh at them. If any of them were lucky enough to get close to my boys and break their hearts they wouldnt live to tell the tale.
I tossed and turned a few times in my bed. But eventually I just decided to get up. I stepped out onto the balcony to see it was a beautiful sunrise. The clouds were painted orange pink and yellow from the sun. I smiled as the salty sea breeze blew gently against my face. I went back inside and grabbed shorts and a sweater with my bakini top underneath it. I walked quietly out of my room and down the hall to the stairs. I could hear and recognize each boys snores from their rooms. I laughed as I could picture each one drooling over the sides of their beds.
I walked slowly through the warm sand that went in between my toes giving me goose bumps on my legs as the cool breeze hit me. The air blew my short hair over my shoulder as I took deep breaths. I have always been one to enjoy the moment I'm in. I'm a very secretive person in reality. I tell the boys most things about my life but not everything. They think I'm an open book but really they don't know everything about me. They don't know that when I was eight my favorite dog died and I still miss her. Her name was Molly. They don't know that when I was twelve my dad abused me. They don't know that when my sisters moved away my mom had a mental break down. They don't know that every summer I used to live with my aunt for a week. They don't know I would rather sing then talk. That I would rather draw than write. I'm different.
Honestly, I fear that if I let my gaurd down about everything I am inside, a soft timid girl, thats all they will see. They won't see their music loving, punk rock, stupid, hilarious best friend anymore. They will see me. But not really me. My family sees me as a delicate little girl who used to have learning disabilities. Not a fun indapendant who doesnt care if she has to walk through the shadiest town on earth just to get to an awesome CD shop. Thats who the boys see me as. But not anyone else.
I wade a little bit into the water, letting the waves lap at my feet. Suddenly arms circle around my waist and I am thrown in the on coming waves. I gasp for air as I come up to the surface.
"You look dumb when your wet!" Calum's laughter floats through the air as I glare at him.
"Calum Hood you are dead!" I yell as I tackle him into the waves. We wrestle and push eachother, our laughter waking up the slow morning air. Calum grabs my waist picking me up and hurling me into the water again. I grab his wrists and pull him in with me. We calm down a bit just splashing eachother calmly, until we crawl up to the beach and sit on the damp sand where the waves can still reach us.
"You don't look dumb you know." I hear Calum say quietly beside me. I look over at him as he is already lookin at me. The water that soaks us is dripping off of his nose. He shakes his hair out like a dog and I crack up.
"I love your laugh Stella." He says smiling shyly. I am smiling too but I frown slightly. Calum has never said something like that to me before.
"Thanks um Cal." I say slowly. He nods smiling. I purse my lips looking out over the waves again.
"Come on!" I shout as I see a huge wave coming in. I grab his hand and pull him into the water. We position ourselves so our backs are facing the wave. He looks back at iit them at me.
"Havn't you ever body surfed?" I ask him laughing at his confusion.
"No!" he yells with a paniced look in his eye whhich just makes me laugh all the harder.
'Just do what I do. Slide in 1, 2, 3!" I scream above the roar of the wave that just broke over us. I tumble in the water coughing and laughing as our limbs collide together at his fail at a body surf.
As we drag our feet walking back to house we bump into eachother playfully.
"This is why this summer together will be great." Calum smiles at me and I nod.
Maybe my childhood wasnt the best. But this summer will be with me and my best friends.
DAMN I LOVE THIS STORY!
