The Little Things

We came into our house, ready to just chill the rest of the day. Me especially because I have to keep the biggest secret ever from Aunt Jesse, Feona, and Juliana. Rueben, their pet pig who I thought was dead, was alive again! I still can not believe that he is here right now! I never knew that this could happen! But now it happened and I have to keep quiet about it. How am I supposed to keep quiet about something like this? Kaylie said that I couldn't even tell mommy and daddy about this because she is afraid that they will tell them. This is so much pressure, and I am only 6 years old!

"Is everything okay Jessica?" mommy asks, making me get out of my thoughts. "You seem deep in thought. What's up?"

"Nothing mommy," I say, hiding my face a little. "I am just tired from today's activities."

"Me too sweetie," she agrees, patting my back. "I had your baby brother, so I have a reason why I am tired. Why are you so tired? You are usually really energetic around this time!"

"I am tired because of Kaylie taking me unexpectedly," I say, yawning to proof it. "After she did that, I am quite tired."

"Oh okay," mommy says, guiding me to bed. "Why don't you lay down for a few minutes? Maybe that will make you more perked up so we can go out tonight."

"Okay mommy," I say, getting in my covers. "Love you."

"Love you too! See you in a few!" She says, shutting the door behind her and now I am alone. I don't like lying to mommy! It makes me feel so bad! But she can not know about Rueben being alive again! It's the little things that get me I guess. (Get the reference? If not, play Little Things by Annie LeBlanc again at the top if you haven't already.)

"Hey Jess," daddy says, scaring me out of my thoughts. "Petra told me that you were acting weird. What's up?"

Oh no... why did mommy have to do that? Now I have daddy on my case as well. What the heck! What am I supposed to say to him?

"Nothing daddy," I say, trying to hide the hurt in my eyes. "Mommy was just worried about me, but everything is fine now."

"Are you sure sweetie?" He asks, getting closer to me. "You know you can come to me and your mommy right?"

"Yeah of course, I just don't want to talk about it right now," I say, looking him strait in the eye. "Can I get some rest please?"

"Yes sweetie," daddy says, getting up. "Sorry for bothering you about it." He then walked out of my room, and I am alone once again. I don't like lying to daddy and mommy! Why do I feel like I am going to be regretting this?

Suddenly I get a call from mommy's phone (she left it in here when she was talking to me.) I looked at it and it was Kaylie. I wonder what is going on.

"Hello?" I say into the speaker.

"Is this Jessica?" Kaylie says on the other side.

"Yes it's me."

"Okay good. We have a bad situation going on right now and I need your help."

"What's wrong?"

"People know about Rueben being alive again, and they took down his memorial."

"What? If Aunt Jesse sees this, she will be so upset! We need to rebuild it!"

"I know! Meet me at the place where it is so we can rebuild it before she comes to visit him again!"

"I'm on my way! Be there in a few!"

I hung up immediately. How dare people do that to his memorial? Don't they know that Aunt Jesse, Aunt Feona, and Aunt Juliana don't know about him being alive? Well I guess they didn't care about that at all. I got to get there so I can help rebuild it!

Soon I was there, and Kaylie was waiting for me. It took us 2 and a half hours to do it! By the time we were done, I was exhausted! I honestly can't wait to hop in bed and just sleep the day away.

"Thanks for the help Jessica!" Kaylie says, giving me a hug. "You want to see Rueben before you go back home?"

"No, I'm too tired. Maybe tomorrow I can come and see him," I say, yawning. "Bye Kaylie!"

"Bye!" She says as I walked away. "See you tomorrow!"
