Camila's POV- November 2017
I took a deep breath as I watched the Astros celebrate their 1st World Series win. Chris had worked his ass off all season and to see the season end this was heartbreaking.
"We should head towards the locker room" I stated.
Ellen, Clayton Kershaw's wife looked at me and nodded.
"Uh, yeah we should do that"
I stood up and followed Kourt, Justin Turner's fiance towards the elevator that was going to lead us to the main floor.
"I don't know what to tell him"
Mady was right, I had no clue what I was going to tell Chris when I saw him. Is it mean of me to believe that I knew that they were not going to win this series? The second the Dodgers made the World Series, I got this gut feeling that did not settle until the game was over.
"We're all on the same boat honey"
Unfortunately, the media got to the guys before we could get there. All we could do was wait, and it sucked for those with children because it was late and they were getting fussy.
"Do you work tomorrow?"
I turned when I felt a light nudge.
"I'm supposed to, but I'm going to call out" I replied.
Mariana, Kike Hernandez' fiance nodded.
"I don't know how you do it"
"Do what?" I wondered.
"Function"
"It takes lots of coffee and makeup to look this normal" I joked.
She smiled and leaned her head on my shoulder.
"You make it look easy"
"Just like you, I cry at home and tell no one about it" I stated.
"If there was wine, I'd drink to that"
Same.
"And it looks like they're letting us in.
She quickly stood up and rushed out of the room. The locker room was silent by the time we all got in. Chris was seated on the floor next to his stall. I made my way over and set my purse on the chair before taking a seat next to him.
"Hey" I said getting his attention.
He slowly looked away from the floor and took a deep breath.
"Want to head home?" I asked.
Chris was still in his uniform, and I could smell his dried sweat.
"Let me take a quit shower, just to remove the disappointment"
He took a deep breath and stood up.
"I'll be as quick as I can be"
Once he was gone, I slowly looked around the locker room. Some of the guys were slowly starting to crumble, and it was obvious that none of the ladies (myself included) had no clue how to handle this. As Chis showered, I gathered up his things. My phone chimed as I opened Chris' backpack and began placing the book he had been reading (to keep his jitters from taking over). There seemed to be a small box at the bottom preventing the book from going all the way down. Just as I moved it, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. Looking up, I smiled at Cody, Chris' teammate.
"What are you up to?"
"Just putting some of Chris' stuff away" I answered.
I chose to not move the small box and instead reached for Chris' two iPhone chargers as well as his iPad.
