Jennie Kim
"Babe!"
I smiled, taking off my glasses as my wife's sweet, yet a little annoyed voice called me out.
"Yeah?" I said, placing my lenses on the table I was reading a book on.
"Have you seen Jay? He's been missing since the morning!"
My eyes moved towards our son, that we adopted two years ago. His eyes were closed as his small frame was basically all over the bed. He always slept diagonally. I smiled.
Standing up from my seat, I walked closer to him. Grabbing his small legs and fixing his position. He was a big trouble maker despite being only able to speak a few words. He was only three years old, I wouldn't blame a kid and his intentions. I probably ate sand at this age.
I noticed how he slept with his shoes on. I chuckled, Lisa's been messing up with him a lot, for him to be this tired.
Removing the glued straps of his sandals, I took them off and neatly placed them next to the bed.
I tip toed my way out of the room, not wanting to disturb the child's well deserved sleep.
"Jennie fucking Kim, WHERE IS MY SON-"
I shot a glare towards Lisa who was standing right outside my room, crossing my arms and leaning against the wall, I interrupted her, "He's sleeping, calm down woman."
Lisa's expressions softened at my answer, "Oh."
I scoffed, "You've been working since the morning, he was waiting for you all day. Good job, Lisa." I rolled my eyes.
Lisa's face turned into a frown as I explained, "I make money for you woman, be grateful!"
"Yeah, you don't even let me buy new shoes with that money."
"You wanted to buy the whole store, Jennie."
"Your point?"
"You're dumb."
"Thank you captain obvious!"
"You're accepting that you're dumb? Oh wow, I knew I was correct about you and your slowly falling brain cells."
I rolled my eyes playfully and made my way to the kitchen, Lisa hot on my tail. "Jennie?"
I hummed in response as I took out eggs to make scrambled eggs for Lisa. "What is it?"
"Do you think, maybe it was a blessing that Jay could see you at the orphanage?"
I stopped my movements, pondering over what she had just said. A smile crawled up to my face, remembering how it was fresh and unexpected for a human other than my friends to notice me like I was just another average looking girl passing by.
Jay was able to see me at the orphanage, he crawled towards my leg like a puppy and wrapped his barely built arms around my leg. It was a shock to both me and Lisa, not to mention, the orphanage lady almost fainted as she saw an infant hugging air. Can't blame her, though.
The problem is, why was he able to see me? Only people who truly loved me were able to see my existence.
"Yeah," I mumbled.
Soon, a pair of arms were wrapped around my waist. Lisa's breath was brushing against my exposed neck. She gently placed a small kiss on the bare flesh.
"I love you, Jennie."
"I love you more, Lisa."
Our moment was ruined as soon as we heard cries coming from upstairs, mixed with screaming and yelling.
Lisa sighed and let go off me, "I'll get it, you can stay."
I nodded, Jay has been keeping us busy these days too much. This age is when kids crave attention the most. We didn't leave him alone even for a single moment, except for when he was sleeping. It was either Lisa messing up with him and making weird hairstyles with his hair or it was me, taking him out into the lawn to play with him.
"Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today," Lisa stepped in, laughing. I turned around and soon started cracking up as well.
Lisa held our son in her arms so gently as he buried his face in her neck, his eyes were puffy and his cheeks were red. He had a grumpy expression on his face as he continued hiding in Lisa's arms.
"Sleewpy," he muttered, making my insides explode at his cuteness.
"I know child, your number two mommy has been teasing you a lot these days, am I right?"
"Hey hey hey! Why the hell am I number two?!"
"LANGUAGE! And second of all because you're outside most of the time and I'm out here making him food and all you do is teach him that my name is stupid," I scoffed.
Lisa smiled innocently, "Fine!"
I cracked a smile of my own before turning to the eggs once again, "They're ready, eat up."
_
We were currently sitting in the living room as we watched our son play with toy cars, Lisa's arms were around my shoulders as we relaxed, taking in each other's warmth. I could doze off any moment now.
This was the life I was blessed with, a wonderful wife who fought for me and a son who was the best thing that ever happened to me. Lisa and I walked gardens of thorns together, but we made it. Our love didn't die, it blossomed instead. I might not be able to give Lisa the best life, but I promise, I'll stay by my wife's side till my last breath.
My unfinished business with her turned into my lifestyle.
