A thousand years before, races all over Britania were sectioned. Fairies, Giants, Goddesses, Demons and humans take part. Each lived in harmony, until a forbidden love was bloomed.
Meliodas, the eldest son of the almighty Demon King fell in love with the goddess Elizabeth who is the daughter of the Supreme Deity. Both of them forbid so from having a connection, for they are the most dangerous race of all. But love will not wither unless removed from the heart from both of them.
And so they continued to share their feelings until the day came when it was punishment.
With the overwhelming power of both of their gods, they had nothing to do. And so they died battling.
The Demon King bestowed a curse to Meliodas, who will never die, and age. "Eternal Life". As for Elizabeth, she was given a curse by the Supreme Deity to live as a human, but will die if she'll discover her real powers. "Perpetual Reincarnation."
It was then Meliodas ventured alone and met 106 Elizabeths along his way, still not getting used to each deaths.
