Chapter 8

{Astor used compulsion on me... to keep me safe. I have to save him, but how?

'Everything has a loophole.'Loophole... 

I am going to walk there and stand next to my lord. I will be safe. I will be safe. I am not doing anything dangerous. 

I feel the compulsion around me loosen. I keep muttering this like a mantra and drag myself across the room to intercept the nail way before it reaches Astor. Pain shoots through my shoulder when the nail passes through my shoulder. Just in time.}

"My lord, this knight tried to assassinate you. 

That's... a... betrayal to the... crown."

"Eirlys... 

I told you to stay safe!"

"I survive, my lord.

What is your order...for this... traitor and his apparent leader?"

"Stop talking, Eirlys."

{Astor looks furious. At me apparently. I saved his life! I am definitely going to demand a pay rise when I return. One danger avoided, but that doesn't mean we win. Felicity's luck is still in high power.}

"I command Felicity to drop into a coma at this instant. 

And she will not be able to regain her conscious until my command."

{Astor's power has 2 aspects. He can compel others to do his bidding. This is more subtle and if there is a loophole, with will power one can break his compulsion. Like what I did just now. Another is command. A command is much more powerful and there is no way to break his command. However, like when I look more than 5 seconds into the future, it is a push against the limit and there are repercussions to the body. I need to make sure there are no more unwanted accidents with Astor being exhausted now. I close my eyes and push myself to look further into the future. I wonder what repercussions I will receive for constantly pushing the limit of my power.}

"Felicity! Felicity!

Ren!"

"She is just unconscious.

I have the ability to kill her. 

You know that, Lucien.

You are the one who coined my infamous nickname."

{It seems like before Felicity lost her conscious, she gave off a final boost of luck. Knights will start to wake up in 10 seconds and they will attack. I push Astor off the track of the first coming attack.}

"My lord, Prince Lucien's knights are waking up."

"Ren, you are outnumbered. You are too blinded by your own greed and jealousy. 

I tried to save you, but you won't listen. 

So don't blame me for stopping you.

I will stop you and then I will find the Fae Treasures. 

As the blood of Fairfax, I will get my wish. 

And I will get back what is rightly mine." 

{I keep on looking into the future and nudging Astor out of the way of attacks. Just why do they have to keep talking? Have one final fight and be done with! Nearly all knights have woken up. They are still a bit sluggish, so their powers aren't the strongest. But still... With the searing pain at my shoulder, I don't think I can stay conscious for long...}

"My lord..."

"Lucien, call off your knights.

Let's play a game, shall we?

I will have a duel with you.

If you beat me, go ahead and proceed with your plan.

If I win, accept that you have failed. 

And leave this kingdom." 

"Ha! Not once could you beat me in sword.

Are you this confident? Your confidence will ruin you!

Prepare to be defeated, Ren!"

"We'll see.

Eirlys, press on your wound.

Things will end soon.

Just give me a few more minutes.

And we'll go home."

{With one gentle pat on my cheek, he turns and faces Prince Lucien.}
