Jessica drove to her friend's houses. They'd be mad about her leaving but overall happy that she was happy. She worked out a lot for the rest of her leave before she left. Jessica mainly hung out with her best friends all week. She was closer to her friend but refused to let them see the affects of war. Soon Jessica was sent to weaponry schooling. After schooling she became a sniper. She was soon ordered to meet the team she was a part of. There were six people.
Luke quartz-leader. 22 years old
Samantha tolls-medic. 22 years old
Sarah minx-radio girl. 19 years old.
John minx-Builder. 21 years old.
Darren Arnold-bomb defuser. 21 years old.
Jessica Simons- sniper. 19 years old.
This was an interesting team. John and Sarah were married. Luke was quiet. She liked him he must've been thinking instead of talking.
"Welcome back everyone! We have a new comer. Everyone meet our sniper. Lance corporal Simons. Looks like they finally realized we needed more infantry. We'll be deploying to Afghanistan so rest up. Be back here at 0600 hours tomorrow. Good night y'all," he stated. He said y'all. She liked him already. She turned and returned to her room quickly. She face timed her brother and soon Jess saw his face pop up.
"Hey"
"Hey. What's up sis"
"I'm deploying for a few months. Spread the word to the family but don't worry. Ok?"
"Ok sis. I gotta go see you soon. Bye,"
"Bye,"
She hung up. She turned off her phone. Jessica packed my bags.
See you later
It rang in Jessica's head until she fell asleep. What if it wasn't see you again?
Jessica rolled out of bed. She remade her bed and got ready to leave. She walked out refusing to look back. When she arrived at the meeting place Quartz was the only one there. She stayed silent.
"Everyone i've seen walk into this room for the first time was so nervous. Why are you so cool," he asked. He had a small smile and lifted an eyebrow. Jess realized he had bright green eyes with black hair that went nicely with his tanned skin. Jessica had to think about it.
"I guess it's the fact I have nothing to be nervous about. I trust my training and even if it let me down I have nothing that couldn't move on without me so everything would be fine," Jess shrugged.
"So Jessica, I like to know about my team. So what about you should I know?" He questioned. Jess looked around thinking.
"Well I like being called Jess better than Jessica. My brother is marine. I don't get along with my family. I'm from Ohio," She stated. He was happy with her anwser because he nodded with a small smile.
"Ok Jess," he replied. Soon the others showed up. When they boarded the plane Jess sat in a corner looking at the floor. Sarah and John sat next to each other. Sam and Darren drifted around. Luke decided he wasn't through questioning.
"Why the Marines?" He asked. Jessica raised an eyebrow at his question.
"I've been underestimated my whole life. I'm not anymore. Now I'm just more disowned," Jess smirked at the last part.
"Well you're my family now. Jessica Quartz," he chuckled a little bit. She laughed to.
"You can claim me as family but it doesn't mean I'll change my last name," Jess giggled. He laughed. He sat down next to her. He used his hand to stretch out and lightly turn her head towards him.
"You're a good person. You're pretty and seem like some one I'd want to know for quite a while. Maybe someday," he explained. Was this an attempt to flirt. She smirked and looked straight ahead.
"Maybe someday," she mocked in a quiet tone. He smiled. He turned his head away probably to hide his red face. Jess shook her head at his actions and leaned back against the wall. She let the steady roar of the engine calm her.
A few hours later the plane finally landed and they got off. They were taken to a small camp where only a few other teams were staying. All the girls had a room to themselves. She set her bag on the bed.
"You'll settle in pretty quick. Don't worry," Sam smiled. Her eyes were a deep blue and he dark red hair with pulled back in a bun. Sarah gave me a small smile. She had light blonde hair with dark brown eye. She was tan but Sam was pale. Jess nodded. They walked into another room where the rest of our team was kicked back and relaxing on the sofa and chairs.
"Everyone settled in?" Luke asked. Everyone gave a "yes sir". He nodded and stood up.
"We have briefing at 1900. We're going on out first mission tomorrow," he stated before walking out. The team smiled at each other and let out their excitement. Jess simply smiled before walking back to the room. She simply pulled out photos of her brother and best friends.
"I promised. I will come home after this don't worry," she whispered to herself.
"It's always harder when your family makes you promise that you'll come home," Sarah simply said. She turned around. She didn't even hear her come in.
"Since you're a sniper you'll be spending most of our missions alone or with Luke. Don't worry though you'll be fine," she reassured. She looked at the time and headed to briefing. She sat through it listening and taking in every possible detail. After briefing she walked back and got ready for bed. Jess knew that tomorrow would be an early day so she sighed as she climbed in bed. She was soon joined by Sarah and Sam and no one said a word. It was relaxing and soon Jess went off to sleep.
