Jessica woke up early and got ready to go. She grabbed her bags and walked towards her apartment door. She'd come to really love this place through the past few months even though that the walls are thin and the traffic sounds are annoying as hell. She slowly opened the door.
"I'll see you again real soon. I hope," she whispered to her apartment before walking out. She locked the door and walked downstairs to the front desk.
"Excuse me sir," Jess greeted. The old man turned around to face her.
"How may I help you young lady?" He asked.
"Can I have my key put into my storage box? I'm flying out today and don't want to risk loosing it," she replied to his question.
"Yup I can do that. Thank you for your service. Come home safe," he advised. Jessica nodded and gave him the key. She walked out and decided it was a nice morning. She had a while so she decided to just walk instead of taking her car. Mostly due to the fact that she forgot her keys in her apartment and had no place to store them at the base.Jessica was now walking up to her team. They all seemed to relax a bit once she arrived. She dropped her bag at her feet.
"Surely you didn't think I would suddenly abandon y'all with my own mission," she stated. Many of them laughed. The three siblings were quiet. They weren't scared. They were thinking about going back. Jessica looked down at her watch. It saying 0530 hours. While everyone started talking Jess went to the window. She saw their plane slowly pull up to the terminal. Every single muscle and inch of skin shivered at the idea of returning.
"You have to do this. The is no turning back. Other lives are depended on you going back. This is what you signed up for," Jessica told herself. Soon they were told that the plane was ready to board. Jessica lead her team onto the plane where they each took a seat and buckled in for take off. She started to look back on all her other tours. Her first she was a little nervous but excited. Her second she didn't even want to go because she wanted her life with Luke. But this one was so much different. Her mind and body was practically screaming not to go back but her gut and heart was telling her to go get her brother and fellow comrades. She knew what she had to do but she didn't want to. She was so into thinking that she didn't even realize that the plane was already in the air. She relaxed. Her team looked at her.
"Look this if going to be really hard. Worse than any other tour. We'll have to be on alert at all times and protect others as well as yourself. No one is to be left behind. We are all a family now and we need to act like it. Don't worry I'll protect you all with everything I have," Jessica stated. They all nodded.
"But you are our comanding officer. Therefore we are suppose to protect you the most," Dominic said. Jess shook her head.
"No, anyone can lead a team and make a good plan. Like Sarah. Not many can use radios and stay in contact with the US or think about Sam. Not everyone can look at a person and say what's wrong. What organs did a bullet hit and go through. Not many know how they can fix it while in a war zone and keep other wounded Marines alive but she can. Or think about our builders. They know how to make something out of anything and make it sterdy for out use. I'm just the commanding officer and I'm just the sniper. Do not worry about me. Worry mostly about the others who matter more then you can worry about me once they are safe but if I tell you to leave me then you are to follow orders and leave. Am I understood?" She inquired. She had a stern face to show that she wasn't kidding.
"Yes ma'am," they all responded in unison while attempting to maintain an emotionless tone. Jessica nodded her head in response to their confirmation.
"Good," she replied. She sat back into her seat. She had no clue at what point she stood up all she new is that at some point she stood up. She relaxed. She knew her team wouldn't give up so easily on her but she wanted them to. If one of them died for her she would officially loose it. They've became really close to her and she has let them in so loosing another friend or family member was was unbearable. She listened on the conversation that was going on. Sarah and John were talking about after the tour. Sam was talking about getting more training and switching to just being a doctor at base. Aiden was talking about finally starting a family with his wife. Alex was talking about taking a break and maybe going to college. Dominic was saying he was going to find himself a nice girl and settle down. Darren was talking about finally taking time out for his gaming skills. Josh and Jace we taking about just staying in for awhile longer.
"What about you Jess? Any big plans?" Dominic asked. Jessica looked at the ground.
"Right now I'm living in the moment. I'm going in and getting my brother and his fellow comrades. Then I'm getting him home. After all that I don't really know. Maybe go home but I'm not sure. All that place had is bad people that do bad things," she replied. Her home wasn't in the best area. There were drugs and stuff but at least there wasn't any murders or suicides. Pretty much everyone was on drugs and couldn't do anything of that sort. Everyone looked at her with big eyes.
"Well I hope you don't end up like them," Sam said. Jessica smile and gave them all a slight nod to say they shouldn't worry.
