The plane took off and everyone wasn't wanting to go back. Finally Jessica decided they needed and intervention. She stood up.
"You know if we keep moping about how much we don't want to go back then our minds won't be right. If our minds are still at home and not with us then we are for sure dead. We gotta push back the thoughts and memories and do this job because not just our own lives but many other Americans and the citizens of Afghanistan's lives depend on us to keep them safe. So get your heads in the game because I'm not ready to die but I'm willing if it's needed from me," Jessica encouraged her team members. Everyone started clapping and smiling. They all agreed.
"I guess it's true that every leader needs a strong partner," Luke stated looking at Jess.
"Of course. When this is all over we're going home. We are going to get married and never go back to that place," Jessica spoke.
"I think I can settle on that," Luke agreed. Everyone was having fun and laughing now. Sometimes all it takes is a good speech from a fellow marine to make everyone lighten up. Soon they were back at another sandy camp.
"Gotta say I kinda missed the dry heat," Jess said.
"California has dry heat. We'll move there," Luke replied. Jess laughed and rolled her eyes.
"I prefer the cold," she said.
"Damn that shit is annoying. Anything below sixty is cold," Luke said. Just thinking about it gave him goosebumps.
"Correction. Anything below thirty is cold. Also wind chill that's the bitch," Jess stated before walking into the girls room. To her bunk.
"We have a meeting in an hour," Sam informed. Jess nodded. She finished unpacking her stuff before heading to their meeting room.
"Ok so tomorrow we'll be spending all day training. Our first mission will probably be in a few days. Clean your guns and brush up on your skills. We gotta be ready for anything. You all have individual assignments to finish before training," Luke said.
"Jess after you clean your gun go do some target practice. Sam go to the medical center and help out. Get back into the groove of things. Darren and John just think of new ways to attack and how it can be done. I'll be studying our targets in here. Let's get ready team. They want us to get in take out this team and get out. They want it done quick and soon. Word is they have a lot of explosives so beware and on alert. Dismissed," Luke demanded. They all left the small meeting building. She got started on her gun. Soon jess was shooting at targets. Her skills are still sharp if "I do say so myself" she thought. She soon started talking to herself.
"Oh so you want to blow up my friends? Not anymore,"
Bang
"Your gonna shoot me?Nope,"
Bang
"Oh and yo-"
"I find it interesting to find the best sniper I know talking to paper targets like they are members of the Taliban. I don't think you've ever asked questions before shooting them," he stated.
"Maybe I've turned over a new leaf," she suggested.
"Oh sure. I'm pretty sure you like the way you do things and your not gonna change anytime soon," he laughed.
"Ah your right. Shoot first and if they're still alive see if they are of any use. If so get the answers before shooting them and if they aren't just shoot them again. It's like a way of life," Jessica said.
"Why aren't you scared?" Luke asked.
"Fear weakens not just the mind but also the body. You start to shake and soon become paralyzed by fear. Living in my family you learn to block out fear and it's quite easy," Jessica replied. Luke stood there puzzled by her reply. This women was awesome is all that he could think.
"I think you've for filled what you're suppose to do. Go and get some rest. Training is probably gonna be hard," Luke sighed.
"Maybe for you but with me and my family not being exactly good yet I filled my time with training. You don't keep a body like this laying around," Jess jokes.
"Hmmm. I think I need to examine that body more closely. Maybe without the clothes also," Luke replied.
"Last time I checked I have a fiance not a husband. When I get a wedding is when you can examine anything you'd like but until then paws off!" Jessica giggled.
"Yes ma'am. I love you," he stated.
"I knew that. I love you too. More than you'll ever know," Jessica replied while packing her gun back up in the case. She walked over to give Luke a good night kiss. She kissed him and each time it felt like the first time. Deep down she always has a feeling it may be the last so she wanted to make it like the last. She finally packed up and headed back. She got prepared for anything. She had her battle outfit out. It consisted of her helmet, vest, backpack, and a gun holder on her thigh. There was also had a place for a knife in her boot. She kept ammo in pockets. She never knew when something would happen so she wanted to make sure she could get ready in record time. She loved her friends and family, and that's all she needed to protect so she'd do whatever was needed to do. She finally made her bed. Another tour in hell. Hopefully she wouldn't come back here after this she'd actually get stationed. Some of the team members contracts were ending so they won't be together anymore. The dream team would be retired and she would be free from here. She slowly drifted off to sleep with her future coursing through her mind. She was ready but first she had to jump this last hurdle then she was forever free.
