Soon everyone was going to bed. Jessica and Luke were left at the card table.
"Well isn't this interesting," like stated.
"What's so interesting?" Jessica asked.
"The fact that were the ones left here. I knew from the moment I saw you that you were a badass," he stated.
"And now," Jess asked raising an eyebrow.
"Now I'm pretty sure I know who I'm not gonna give up on. I know we haven't known each other long but I really like you. I hope you'll give me a shot," he replied leaning in towards the table.
"I'll give you a shot. But if you break me in anyway I'm going to break every single one of your bones one by one," Jessica said with a serious gaze. He acknowledged that she wasn't kidding and nodded. The spent the rest of the night talking before going to bed.Two weeks later
Jessica's relationship has progressed. They hang out and talk a lot but nothing extreme yet. Meanwhile activety has decreased. The team jokes and says it's about her ability to kills quickly. They were all enjoying a card game when Luke walked up.
"Word came in. Grab your gear and meet at the humvees," he stated before walking off. Jessica quickly got up and packed. She was quick at it to. She put extra ammo everywhere possible before walking to the humvees. Somehow she was always second to arrive.
"There's my girl," Luke said with a smile. Jess laughed.
"Here I am. Ready for battle," she replied. The others arrived.
"Ok we got a tip off. There are two medium sized houses about twenty miles from here. They may have POW's. Jess you do what you do best. Sam and Sarah stay back for five minutes. Jess anyone you see kill them. Let's roll out," he demanded. She hopped in. So do what I do best She thought. When they came to a halt Jess quickly got out and looked for a good spot. They wasn't really any place she could go. She decided on a small rock on a really tall and steep hill. She took position. Everyone was in position but before they could put the plan in action men started running out of the buildings shooting all around. Jess quickly returned fire. It was an all out war and Jess was high on adrenaline. Man after man. She heard a crunch behind her and she quickly turned. Three men stood behind her. They started raising their weapons and Jessica let her fighting instincts take hold. She quickly rolled and pulled out her knife and cut the closest man's acheeles tendon then grabbed him and pulled him down. She used him as a body cover while the others shot. When they were reloading she jumped up and tackled one guy. She sunk her knife into his lower abdomen and twisted. He screamed in pain as blood started staining his shirt. Suddenly she was knocked off of him. She had just taken the butt of a gun to the side of her head. Recovering from her injury the man walked towards her. She saw her men being over powered. She turned and the man started to pull the trigger. She jerked her body to the side but a bullet hit her shoulder right under her collarbone. She groaned in pain. She pulled herself to her gun. She quickly grabbed it and turned around. She shot the guy in the head as he turned to run. She started focusing on defending her friends. A few men later and all was safe. She couldn't find her helmet. It was knocked off when she was hit. She had just notice all the scratches from the guys fingers. She heard Luke yell. This oughta be good. She scramble to her feet and grabbed her helmet she started down the steep hill. He didn't even notice her wounds.
"Why weren't you defending us! You could've gotten us all killed!" He shouted.
"I was busy," she replied. He wasn't even looking at her as she approached. He was looking at John and realized he was pale. He was looking it Jessica.
"John?" Quartz asked.
"John," Jess whispered. Luke turned and saw the blood spilling down Jessica's uniform.
"Please tell me that's not your," he pleaded.
"Well um most of it is but some of it isn't," Jess replied. Luke walked up to her and started peeling of her clothing to get to the wound. This was awkward for Jess because she was practically being undresses. When he reached the wound he looked closely at it.
"Let's get you to Sam," he said quietly.
Jess nodded before following to the Humvee. After what felt like hours Sam was finished and they were back at camp. Jessica went to her bunk and changed. She kept feeling her stitches. It was weird having something holding you together. Jess walked out and went to watch cards. Luke sat beside her.
"It was my job to look out for you guys and I didn't do that. I'm sorry," she apologized.
"It's ok you were shot. What snapped you out of your daze and back into your job?" He asked. Jessica looked confused. He didn't know about the fight so he presumed she was hit from the other guys.
"Three men had snuck up behind me. By the time I realized it was to late. I got one to the ground and killed the other but then someone hit me with the butt of their gun. The impact knocked off my helmet. I killed them all though. That's when I went back to work," she explained. He looked in shock.
"Oh," he sighed. He realized she had two battles to fight and she won both. She smiled to think that he was worried. Everyone was slightly worried now because she was wounded. She didn't care though because she was fine. Everyone was fine and she'd continue her job.
