Jessica was suddenly standing next to the bed. She looked down and saw her body lying there motionless and very deadly pale while everyone cried. They finally brought out a dark stained casket. It was a deep mahogany stained casket that still smelled of pine and the stain. Who knew you could still smell in the afterlife. It was a little roomy for a body the size of Jessica's body but then again these were made for the huge dudes that resembled super heroes or WWE wrestlers. After stitching up her wounds and placing her in a fresh uniform they placed Jessica's body in the casket. It was weird. She was with her body and all of her team but they couldn't see her.
"It's weird. I know. I've been through it as well," someone said. Jessica jumped in surprise at the familiar voice. She turned towards the voice.
"Luke?" She said in a questioning tone.
"Yeah. I was sent to help you move on," he stated very calmly. To calmly for a dead guy but then again she was also calm and dead.
"What do you mean?" She asked with her eyebrows scrunched together.
"You have to have closure as well. I have to lead you through and let you see how your loved ones are coping and handling the news. It's suppose to help you know that they're ok and you can move on," he replied.
"Oh," she sighed. They got on the plane with her body and flew home. She was wondering why they couldn't just like teleport or something but then again she didn't want to ask. They followed the car that was going to break the news to her family. It pulled into her driveway. Two Marines ,one a women and the other a man, walked up to the door. Before they could knock her brother and mother opened the door.
"Can I help you?" Ethan asked.
"Mrs.Simons I presume," they said looking at her mom. She nodded.
"We were sent to tell you that your daughter, Jessica Simons, died in the line of duty. She released her team and sacrificed her life for them. She got a bullet to her chest which hit an artery and a bullet the the leg. When she decided to take her chance at survival and run, she was blown up. Despite her life threatening injuries that should've killed her within minutes, she lived until she was back at base. The medic couldn't save her due to the fact that all if the damage was to bad and she died at 0352 hours. We are very sorry for your loss and here's a paper with contacts for her body," the women said handing her the paper. They walked off and Jessica saw her mother nearly drop while her brother held her close. Her brother's wife ran in to see what the commotion was.
"What happened?" She asked.
"It's Jess. She's dead," he replied. Jessica placed her hand on her mother's shoulder even though she knew she couldn't feel it. Jess noticed that with the papers were all of her letters. Her brother looked at the letters and opened the one to them.
"Dear family,
If you're reading this well then you know I'm no longer with you in human form. I will always be with you in spirit. Please don't cry to much because you will need to move on. I'm better off now. I made a will which should be in effect soon. I don't regret what I have done because I'd say I probably saved more life by sacrificing my own. Please send the letters to my friends and take the one to the neighbors. I love you all.
Forever and always
Jessica C. Simons
Her brother read it. He instantly walked out to mail the letters. The neighbors cried and Ethan got in his car. He instantly felt the tears roll down his face.
"Come on let's skip time and see your friends," Luke stated. Jessica nodded. When they received their letters they all met up to read them together. They had no clue but they were each the same. Amber was the only one who could read them. The others were to scared.
Hey friends,
I'm doing well for many reasons. I have to tell y'all each something. Summer you always need to stay a happy person and never give up on your crazy dreams. Serena you need to remember that life will look up and you will get better at some point. Amber you are so strong don't let the smallest things break you down. I love you all so much and believe in you all. Now you are probably wondering why I wrote this. Well I wrote this just in case. If you are reading this letter it is because I'm dead now. My family will invite y'all to my funeral. I'm sorry for leaving you all but I've lived my purpose. It's time for y'all to live yours and I will always believe in y'all. Remeber you all are beautiful, smart, and special in your own way. I'm forever with you.
From your forever friend
Jess S.
Jessica watched her friends break down. They couldn't believe that she was gone.It was the funeral day and Jess would move on after this. Everyone she knew came. There were a bunch of speeches and stuff from her friends. Even her dad showed up. Everyone cried as they lowered her casket into the ground.
"Death. Many people are scared to die but I wasn't. I was ok with it and death doesn't exactly mean that I'm gone. I will forever be with my friends and family. Life was hard but I lived it. I saved many lives in my lifetime. I'm not ashamed or disappointed at what I've done. I'm proud. I'm forever remembered and I will always be strong. I am and forever will be a United States Marine. I am Jessica C. Simons and I am finally moving on," Jessica thought. She followed Luke into the light.
