The Dark Truth

The Hatred: chapter 8

I woke up to a bang. I jumped out of bed and run to the main room to see ivy and cat being held by two buff guys with guns and joker looking pissed. "Oh Harley! Come out come out wherever you are!" He says as he stands there in a purple trench coat and black pants with a cane in front of him. I walk out and cross my arms, "let my friends go, and leave. Harley deserves better."
You can see the fury in jokers eyes as his goons, Pam, and cat look at me in surprise. J walked towards me menacingly and I stand my ground. He towers over me more than he use to and he looks down on me. "Little bunny comes out to fight. You wouldn't win against me, so give. it. up." He smirks as he speaks slowly and evilly. I growl and do something that makes everyone gasp, I slap the joker.
His eyes are wide as he holds his cheek and look at me, for a split second I see the boy I use to know but then evil engulfs his eyes. He pulls out his gun and aims it at my head as he grabs my throat and pins me to the wall. both Pam and cat are yelling for him to stop. "You have made a big mistake bunny, how dare you." I stay as calm as possible but whimper out, "what did I ever do to you!" He laughs evilly and slowly as he gets closer. "You left me in a state of black rage and confusion, you left me to be taken to the asylum where they prodded at my brain. You made me!"
My eyes go wide and I can see his finger getting tighter around the trigger. I close my eyes and as i start to accept the fact I'm about die I hear the high pitched voice of the women I'm choosing to die for.
"J! Let her go!" Me and joker both look over to see harley standing there with a gun to j's head and all his goons are either gone or in a pile on the floor. Joker let's go of me and smiles as he opens his arms for harley to run into them. "Come to daddy." You can see harley fighting with herself but she yells, "no!" I smile as j looks at her with rage as he slowly talks, "Come. here. now."
She whimpers and ivy comes behind her and holds onto her, "I said no! I'm done with ya beatings!" Now j is surrounded as harley stands up to him. He growls as he looks at everyone, "then it's time for us to part, you won't survive without me, you always come back. And as for you!" He looks at me and growls, " you need to watch your back." He storms out and I stand there a bit shocked.
I walk over to harley and hug her to which she hugs back as she starts sobbing. I think I'm in a state of shock because after a few minuits I start crying too. Cat and ivy are cleaning up and fixing tea and I sit harley on the couch.
As I'm calming her down I overhear ivy and cat whispering in the kitchen. "What are we going to do?!?! We can't let him kill her!" Cat angrily whispers, ivy shushes her and whispers back. "Look we won't let her get hurt, maybe bring the bats into this. I know you've been talking to him lately." I hear cat sigh and then I can't hear the rest. As I look down I see  Harley is now asleep in my arms, she must have worn herself out.
I lay her down gently and covers her up with a cover I find near the couch. When I see Harley won't wake up I walk over to the kitchen where cat and ivy are still talking. "Look ivy I don't think that's a good idea, I me..." as cat hears me walk into the room she goes quiet. I sigh and cross my arms as I lean against the wall. Ivy is the first to speak, "look, you don't joker. He will kill you and laugh while doing it. You can't protect yourself and we all know it, if it wasn't for harley he would have blown your brains out!" Cat is texting on her phone to who I assume is the Batman. "Do what you think would be best but remember I do have a life, a job. I can't just jump up and forget about it." I sound harsh but I'm just frustrated, I didn't think this would be how coming back to Gotham would go. Cat sighs and closes her phone, "he'll take you, but only to train you. You will live a normalish life as much as you can while being trained to protect yourself. Let's go, see ya ivy." After cat and ivy hug, cat goes to get some things and I hug ivy. She whispers in my ear as she hugs me, "we won't let him hurt you." I smile and whisper back, "you don't have enough trust in me, but thank you for everything." Cat comes back with a bag and were off. As were entering the taxi and heading off to wherever, I  think back on everything that's happened tonight. I made him? What did j mean by that? I left him? Maybe I don't remember anything correctly. I feel awful and somewhere between trying to remember my past and looking out the window at the dark roads of Gotham, I fall into another nightmare. Yet this one has changed ever so slightly...

It's cold, as it been every time I sleep. The wind is blowing in my face and I look around to see I'm were I've been so many times now. The skyscrapers around me are tall and morphed. As I finish looking around I see people all too familiar. I see joker, and a man I still can't make out. "Lizzy, this is your chance. It's either me, or the freak!" J screams out to me and I look to the mystery man, still trying to figure out who he is. He speaks but it's still just mumbles. I look between the two and I still feel that same pull towards j as I do every night. I feel drawn to him by a force I can't control. How can i feel drawn to a man who wants me dead? That's when I feel the pain and register the gunshot I just heard. That's when I see joker stagger back. This is different, it was always me who was shot. I run to him and he grabs my hand with his blood soaked one. "You. Must. Remember." As j says these words his eyes close and I hear his last breath. I scream a high pitched sound so loud I'm sure i could bust a glass.

Remember what?
