The Gift: Chapter 14

I wake up to see I'm in an unfamiliar place. I hear voices and look over to see Batman and Selina talking. I sit up as I hear Selina gasp and run to me. "Oh my goodness Lizzy are you okay?!" I nod my head yes as b man checks my vitals. "Your heart rate is still high, try to relax." I nod to Batman and Selina sits on the bed I was laying on. "What did j say on the phone?" I hold my head as an instant headache appears at the mention of j. "He, said it wouldn't be that easy to remember is all." I try not to talk about the part where he wants me to meet him, I don't need them to worry anymore. I look to Batman to see him squinting at me suspiciously and I look away. Selina sees this and nods her head at B man and they walk away. I look down at myself to see I'm still in my work outfit. I look around for my phone and find it on a nearby table. I see I have a message from jokers number and I save it in my phone as Jeremy so only id know who it was. I check to see the messages says "there's a surprise on your bed. Can't wait to see you tonight." I shiver at that thought and put my phone back on the table. What could the surprise be? I get up and walk over to where bat and Selina are talking. "Look I just want to go home and lay down, I think I deserve it after all this. I mean it's barely been a week since I've moved here and so much has happened." They look at each other and Batman nods as he puts his hand on my shoulder. "If joker calls or does anything to get in touch with you tell me immediately. Ok? he's dangerous. I don't care what you remember, he's not the same guy. ok?" I nod my head as guilt starts seeping in. I can't tell him about going to see him tonight, he'll try to stop me. I need to know what joker wants with me. Why does he keep meddling with my head? Selina comes over to me, "let's go, I'll drive you." I nod my head ok and she puts a blindfold on me. I groan as she leads me to a car and soon we're off.

as we pull up to my apartment Selina's the first to get out. I look up to see the sun is already coming up. its tomorrow already? I quickly follow after her, "what are you doing?" she gets in the elevator and waits for me to key us up. "well, we all know you didn't tell the truth so I'm going to do a perimeter check. unless you have something to tell me." she looks at me expectantly and I sigh and key us up. I check her for a bug or microphone but relax as I see none. "fine but you cant tell batman, deal?" I hold out my pinky and she intertwines her pinky and we then intertwine our other pinkies then kiss near each others cheeks. we giggle at our old swear and I lean against the wall of the elevator. "he also told me to meet him tonight, and apparently he knows where I live because he's left a gift on my bed.." I trail off as I play with my hands. she uncrosses her arms with alert in her eyes. "why did you keep that from us?! we need to secure you! he's dangerous as you've seen!" I rub my face in frustration and sigh, "look, I knew you guys would stop me, especially bats. I need to know what he has planned. don't stop me, help me." she sighs and the doors open to a Harley mopping up the floor while dancing to my stereo playing Melanie Martinez. we walk in and I turn the stereo off and she stops in shock. "oh! Lizzy! your okay!!" Harley runs and hugs me tightly to which I hug her back. " hey Harls, what have you been doing?" the place looked spotless except a few red marks on my couch. "oh! craney got blood everywhere so I decided to help clean, considering it was my fault he was bleeding." me and cat look at each other then Harley. Selina looks around and then kind of whispers to Harley. " did anyone come in? or anyone drop something off?" Harley thinks for a second then shakes her head no. "but I left for a bit to dispose of the trash, if ya know what I mean." my eyes go wide as i realize what she means, "did you...?" she giggles and puts a hand on my shoulder, " no of course not silly, just got rid of him before he makes more of a mess." I sigh and then stiffen again at the thought of someone had to let joker up to give the present, and if it wasn't Harley, who? me and cat run to the bedroom to see a big dark purple box with a green ribbon. we all look at each other and I get closer just for Selina to stop me. "what if its a bomb? he does this a lot." I think for a second and shake my head no. " he wouldn't. if he wanted to kill me or seriously hurt me he would've already. that's not what he has planned. at the worst its a smoke bomb." I get closer to the box and slowly untie it as to not trigger anything just in case. as the ribbon comes off nothing happens so I look to Harley and cat. they get closer and I open it slowly to see something wrapped up in black and a note. Selina grabs the note before I can and reads off it. "for the girl of my past, I give a memory. one I'm sure you've chosen to forget, I sure haven't. love J" Selina looks at me as I pull out a dress that I haven't seen in a long time.
