The Bang: Chapter 25

as i reach the bottom of the stairs i hesitate to keep my eyes on the door. i brace myself and start running to it. two people affected by the gas rush at me and i think back to my lessons with batman. i slide between them then quickly get up and slam their heads together to knock them out. i continue running for the door when im stopped by a group of five. how the hell am i supposed to fight five people?! i hear a whip go past my head and see two people taken down by a long black whip. "need a little help?" i look to my side to see Selina. i feel a little anger towards her from what joker told me but now isn't the time. we take position as the last three run at us. i dodge a few hits from one and kicks their feet from under them. their head hits hard on the ground and i cringe a bit at the sound it made. "i got these two, go!" i nod towards cat and run for the door. a group of people are fighting in front of it but i don't slow down. i brace myself and slide underneath the many people. everything seems to be in slow motion, but when i hit the door i snap back to reality. i open the door to be engulfed by the gas. i cough and wave some away from my face to see. once the gas dispersed enough i saw scarecrow in front of a huge machine pumping out gas. "Lizzy, its so nice to see you." anger flows through me and i rush towards him. "you son of a bitch, tell me how to turn this thing off!" i grab him by the throat roughly and pin him to his own machine. "okay! but aren't you going to thank me?" i look at him confused, "for what? you trying to kill me?!" he laughs darkly and i choke him harder. "of course not, why do you think your immune to this gas?! its because of me! i put it in the serum i gave you last time we saw each other!" i let him go and he falls to one knee and coughs. "why would you do that?" he stands back up, brooding over me thanks to my shortness. "i might have been working for joker but i don't want to do that forever, this is my way of saying fuck him. " he walks out to the main room and i look around for the off button. i hear him plain and clear as I'm looking. "sorry j but your done here, ill be the new king of Gotham! everyone, attack him!" my eyes go wide, j will kill them all. i look around more and find a red button. "please be the off button!" i slam my fist on it as i close my eyes tightly. the gas turns off with a fizzle and i smile relived until i hear guns going off. i run out into the main ballroom to see goons shooting the people that were affected by the gas. my eyes go wide and i look to where j is to see him and bats are still fighting, cat is nowhere to be seen and neither is scarecrow. i see the shooters are at the top of the stairs and i sigh. "jobs never done is it." i look around and see a door next to the staircase and i bolt for it. hopefully jokers threat sticks in their dumb heads. i slam into the door and stumble a bit. when i regain my balance i see a balcony im guessing attaching to the staircase. i run and jump onto it and climb up until im on the balcony. i take a second to breath then go over to the door leading to the staircase and see theirs a shooter right their. they are focused on shooting so i sneak up behind him and put him in a choke lock. i stay holding onto him until he goes limp and take his gun. i shoot the other goons that are still shooting. i see batman and joker are no longer where they were. im guessing joker ran and bat followed. I look around for any clues on where they could have gone when I hear someone yelling for me. I look to where the batmobile had drove in to see Alfred. I run to him and he looks me over. "are you okay Ms. Lizzy?" I nod my head and look around. "did you see where joker went? or scarecrow? cat woman? Bruce?" I speak frantically but Alfred only looked at me in worry. "Bruce told me to find and watch you. that is all I know." I rub my face in frustration and let Alfred lead me out of the destroyed mansion. I see red white and blue lights of a cop car and I see both cops and ambulances are surrounding the front of the building. I can feel the adrenaline slowly leaving me and I feel weaker and weaker with each step. an EMT runs over to me and helps me walk to a stretcher. the emt tries to make me lay down but I shake my head no. "their are people worse off in their than me. get them." my voice is shaky and breathy. "we will get to them too mam, right now we need to get you to a hospital. we need to make sure your okay." I try to fight back but Alfred holds my hand. "go. batman will be okay, Bruce will be okay." I nod my head okay and lay down on the stretcher. they put a oxygen mask on me and put me in the ambulance. just as I go in I see Bruce running to Alfred and a different emt gets into the ambulance and closes the doors. Bruce looks at the ambulance and I see him kind of screams and starts running to it but we were already driving too fast. the emt turns around and starts messing with a few things. I take to mask off and ask tiredly, "is everything alright with me?" I lay my head back and closes my eyes. I hear an evil laugh come from the emt and then he says in a crazy voice, "im afraid your not. your completely insane." he starts laughing that insane laugh I know. I sit up quickly only to be pushed down by joker. "hello again my pet."
