The Dark Truth

the secret: Chapter 3

The room was quiet as tension built up. J was just staring at me with a blank expression as I stayed seated in a leather chair. Since the little meet up in J's club he took cat and me to his office, which was behind the VIP lounge.

Cat, being Cat, is walking around the room and would every so often touch things, to which J would growl. Other than that it's been completely silent as I shift in my seat awkwardly.

J finally speaks but it's not what I expected. " what the hell are you doing here." He said it in such a matter of fact way, you'd think I would've killed the guy's favorite dog. I shifted in my seat as I go to answer but cat cuts me off. "What? A girl can't come home? She missed us, you don't have to be such a dick."

At that last statement J growls and goes towards her but she gives him a warning look. He looks at her with confusion and she just glances towards me. He then sighs in know as he looks at me and gives me the creepiest smile I've ever seen.

"Okay, what the hell just happened? " I stand up in aggravation due to the little moment they just had which I'm assuming was about me. Cat looks away guilty and J just walks closer to me and I stand my ground. "Your a brave little bunny, coming back to Gotham, hanging around her, and then standing bravely in front of me. You've got balls I'll tell you that, or is it ignorance?" As j said the comment about cat she looked at him angrily and I look at him confused. I was about to ask what he meant when he waved his ring-covered hands in the air dramatically and asked "and might  I ask what our little bunny is doing for income?" His eyes pierce into my soul waiting for an answer. I look to cat and see her shake her head no before my face is pulled back by Jack for me to look at him. "Answer me!" I jump as he yells at me with anger, and I realize this isn't Jack anymore.

I look him in the eyes with no fear as I answer. "Wayne Enterprises. First I'll be Bruce Wayne's assistant but he's still deciding on where he officially wants to place me. Happy?" I angrily spit out towards him. I hear cat sigh as jacks eyes go wide. he stumbles back a bit as he let's go of my face.

J raises his head with power as he speaks to me as if I'm below him. "You are one stupid bunny. Leave." Cat rushes over towards me to try to pull me out but I step away. "I don't know what I ever did to you Jack but I'm not going to let you speak to me like that. I've been pushed around enough in my life and your one person I won't let do that!" Everyone in the room but me gasp. I cross my arms as I stand my place and cat tries to pull me out.

She mumbles something but I tune her out as I and Jack have a staring contest it seems. All of a sudden, like a flash of rage, I'm pinned to the wall by my neck as j stands over me. "You know nothing about me you little slut, I will kill you without hesitation and laugh at your remains. And I'm not Jack anymore sweetheart, the names joker." I'm holding onto his arms as his hands grow tighter around my neck but I stay calm as I look at him in a bit of shock. Cats trying to pull j, or should I say joker, off but he won't budge. With all the strength I have left I grow out. "Do it then. Kill me. Joker." Now it's J's turn to look at me in shock, even cat looks at me in shock. He let's go and stumbles back as I hold onto my neck. He is stunned for a few minutes, just staring at me as if he couldn't believe what had just fallen off my lips.

Selena seemed stunned too but quickly recovers and grabs my arm again as to pull me away. That's when the creepiest laugh I've ever heard escaped the lips of the joker. It was slowed and drawn out. "Oh little bunny, you've made a grave mistake." He gets up close in my face and growls out, "go. Away." Before I can say anything else, I'm dragged out by a shaking Selena.

Everything happened so quickly I didn't realize I had bumped into someone. "I'm so sorry!" As I rush to say this a girl about 5'7 in a sparkly gold dress looks at me with rage in her eyes, but it quickly flashes to admiration. "I love your dress! Where'd you get it?" I'm in shock and is mumbling until I hear a scream from js office. "Harley! Get your ass in here!" The girl in front of me, which I'm now assuming is Harley, rolls her eyes and giggles. "Coming puddin!!" She rushes to him as I'm being once again dragged out of the club.

As we get down the road from the club everything's quiet. The only noises that filled the air were sirens and cars racing by, the distant sound of the club behind us and thriving with life, and the sounds of laughter behind every alleyway.

I think back to a few minutes ago and I feel lost. How could he have become this? Why was he so mean towards me? Who was that Harley girl? The boy I once knew and loved, had become a soulless man.

"Lizzy? Are you okay?" As I'm dwelling on the past few moments I forgot cat was with me. I just nod my head and she sighs. "Let's get you home." She pulls out her phone to call a cab and I just look up at the sky. While mostly dark and filled with smog, there's is one new item to the sky I notice. A symbol. In the shape of what seemed to be a bat.
