A kittypet leaped out of one of the open windows of the nearby house and, surprisingly, landed perfectly despite her tail being a small stump. She had a brown and gray spot cover some of her face, a brown spot covering her tail and part of her rump and two brown spots on one of her hind legs and a gray spot on her back, while the rest of her was white. I guessed she was a Japanese Bobtail as my sight reached her tail. It looked like just a lump on her butt. Did I say she had two different eye colors? It was creepy.. One eyes orange, the other blue.
She had a dark blue collar that had a bell as well as a star tag that stated her name. I couldn’t see what it said as she was too far away. She surely had to be a local as she just came out of the house
I took the chance and signaled to Jay to follow me with a rounded flick of my tail. I walked to her in a surprisingly hasty pace as I really needed to be sure. The nearer I went to her, the stranger I felt. The feeling was like a magnet pulling me towards her. Was she someone important?
As I neared I tried looking at the name tag but it was twirling around so I couldn’t get a clear look at it. I brushed it off and decided I would just ask the cat her name. I tapped the cat on her shoulder with a paw and the cat jumped around, screeching, claws unsheathed. I jumped back and instinctively got into a defensive pose. Her amber and blue eyes seemed to be weirdly familiar. I was pretty sure I didn’t know anyone with amber eyes.
That single moment my eyes glanced at her tag showed what this feeling and I identified it as friendliness. Someone who I’ve known for so long, someone I knew like the back of my paw. I leaped towards her and shoved her to the ground.
“Maxine!!” I shouted, a smiled spread across my cat face. Her eyes changed from defensive to confused.
“How do you know my name?” she asked, trying to push me off but failing.
“It’s me, Scarlet!” I said, still shouting. I swear I sounded like Maxine right now.
“Scarlet? I know not of such a cat. The only cats that I know off are the wildcats that live around here and the other rogues that pass by.” she hissed, finally pushing me off. She dusted herself off. I glanced at Jay, who just shrugged. What a help she was.
“What do you mean you don’t know me? We were best friends since kindergarten!” I exclaimed, thinking she was just trolling them.
“Kindergarten? Is that a town? If it was, I’ve never been there. I’ve stayed by the lake my whole life.” She sat on the ground and licked a paw.
I stood there, motionless. Did she just say she lived here the whole time? That couldn’t be. Maybe this was a different Maxine. I inspected her again and just couldn’t get that through to my brain. This HAD to be Maxine, it couldn’t be anyone else. They way she talked, the way she sat, even though she was a cat. It was all too similar.
Could someone have done this to her? Erased her previous memories and implemented new ones while she was being teleported here? It could be, since nothing else that has happened since the flash made much sense. What could I do to spark a memory of us inside her brainwashed head?
I grinned as I remembered a time where we would just burst out into song, and since we were so in sync, we always knew what we would sing. I took in a deep breathe, Jay’s ears folded in on itself to block out our horrifying singing, and started singing the Gypsy Bard. I smiled as I sang as Maxine had a confused look on her face as she suddenly burst into song with me.
