... The minute Rushpaw had let his battle cry out of his throat, Sandpelt, Rushpaw’s mentor, burst through the undergrowth and into the clearing. Sandpelt’s green orbs saw Darkfeather and Stormstep, hackles raised, stalking towards, us scuffling apprentices, while Crimsonpaw was staring at him.

“What in Starclan’s name are you doing, Rushpaw!” His mentor shouted, who was running towards to me and Rushpaw. Too late. Rushpaw happened to cause a nick in my ear while fighting and blood was slowly trickling down my face. Sandpelt used his own claws to drag Rushpaw off of me while Stormstep, with Crimsonpaw who tagged along, came to check on me.

Crimsonpaw growled. “You mousebrain! Come on, we’ve gotta bring you back to camp!”

“You can’t tell me what to do, mom!” I shouted back.

“I’m afraid she’s right, Roaringpaw. Although a nicked ear isn’t serious, it could get infected and cause greater problems. Once you’ve gotten patched up, you can come back here to this clearing, after we’ve dealt with Rushpaw, and we’ll bring you to a hunting spot. There’s no better practice than to actually do it.” Stormstep explained, resting his comfortable tail on my shoulder once I had sat up.

I groaned. “Fine..” I got up and stalked off into the woods in a random direction. Crimsonpaw suddenly appeared next to me, as if she teleported, and stopped me with her tail.

“What is it? I’m going back to the Medicine cat like you said. What else are you going to tell me to do?” I snapped at her. I was frustrated that she was fussing about me just because of a nick.

“You’re going the wrong way.” Her murky blue eyes shouted “IDIOT!” and I blushed underneath my fur.

“I knew that!.. I just.. Wanted to have a small walk in the forest..”  I slowly trailed off at the end of my excuse.

“Sure. Let’s head this way though.” She turned my head using her tail so that we were facing the direction of camp. She padded ahead of me and I had to somehow run to catch up with her, even though it looked like she was suddenly making no effort to go two foxlengths per second.

“Stop.. Going.. So fast..!” I gasped out, “I’m injured here!” Crimsonpaw turned around and stopped, surprised that I had lost my breathe before her. “Did the fight make you worn out?” She asked, worry in her eyes.

“Yea, yea.. Probably.” I nodded tiredly. She sighed.

“Stay away from Rushpaw, alright? I know where this is going to end up if you keep on confronting him like that. Don’t let him get to you either, that just gives him more satisfaction.” Crimsonpaw advised and I sighed.

“I know but.. He was insulting you! I couldn’t just back down from a fight he was begging for.” I explained. “Can we just keep going, I don’t like talking about him..” I mumbled. The squirrel-tailed cat nodded, with a sparkle in her swampy blue eyes. Amusement? Excitement? I dunno.. I gave up trying to comprehend what happened around me after the fight.

When the thorn barrier finally came into my line of sight, I felt like I was a hundred years old. It felt like forever till we got here. All I wanted to do was get patched up and get right on to hunting. I’ll catch the biggest prey the clan has seen today! I slid down the stone walls of the camp dangerously and stumbled into the Medicine Cats’ Den.

Fallpaw spotted me first and eyed my ear. She shook her head and tapped Softlight on the shoulder with her tail.

“Roaringpaw’s got a nicked ear.” She sighed out while Softlight looked up from sorting her herbs. At the moment, the Medicine Cats’ Den was a mess, but that didn’t bother me. My room back at home was always in this kind of state.
