Two cats split from the crowd, one being the cat that announced our appearance unkindly, and the other being a brown cat. The top of his body was a pale brown, but as it got nearer to the paws, it grew to a dark russet.
They both started to circle the three of them and instead of getting into a defensive pose and mimicking their hackles, Scarlet, Maxine and Jay just whimpered and flattened themselves to the ground, to show that they were no threat.
Just as the two were nearing them, a she-cat appeared. Her pelt was a deep gray and her paws were an ash gray. She seemed to be important as everyone in her way took less than a second to get out.
“Stop at once!” She called out.
Both of the cats turned and their hackles settled but their claws were still drawn.
“But Ravenstar,” the she-cat said “They are rogues and kittypets. They have intruded into our territory and they must know the consequences!” She seemed to have a fire in her eyes as she spat out the words ‘kittypet’ and ‘rogues’. Even though she yelled, the so called Ravenstar kept calm.
“Can’t you see, Sunwing? They are as harmful as the youngest kit. They are as old as our apprentices and, as you can see, have not even leaped into battle, which you have done.” Ravenstar chided.
Sunwing’s brown ears flattened against her head as her leader scolded her for her behaviour.
“Then why, Ravenstar, are they here? If they are not here on with a vicious objective why would they go through all the trouble of finding our camp?” The brown one asked, his claws finally sheathing.
“They may not have gone through so much trouble to find our camp, Russetfall.” Ravenstar finally spoke after a moment or so.
She turned to look at Silverkit.
“They must have followed Silverkit here for no rogue or kittypet has ever dared to come into our territory without knowing where they are going.” Ravenstar’s blue eyes narrowed into slits.
“But they weren’t following me!” Silverkit explained indignantly, “I brought them here! They mean no harm!” Silverkit broke out of his mother’s licks and ran out to stand in front of them.
There were a ripple of murmurs that went through the crowd. Cats were glancing at each other and at the three strangers in their camp.
“Is this true, Silverkit?” Ravenstar asked, her voice showing the beginning of a snarl.
Silverkit whimpered and ran behind Jay, who swept her tail around him.
“Yes, this is true.” Scarlet finally spoke up, her voice having a slight tremble to it.
“It was not his intent to harm his clan!” Maxine said, her eyes scanning the crowd.
“Silence!” Ravenstar yowled to them, “You have no say in this, outsiders! We will only trust those in our clan at this crucial moment.” She hissed.
Silverkit stepped away for Jay’s comforting and fluffy tail to talk. “Yes.. I did bring them.”
