Fallpaw followed the fluffy tail of Softlight back to the medicine cat, where she would spend her apprentice days learning about plants. Great. The only reason why she wanted to do this was because she knew she wouldn’t be good at battle training, and would most likely stumble every time she tried to hunt. It was a coincidence that she was called Fallpaw, because she was just as clumsy as her name claimed.

She snorted. At least SHE would be able to talk to Starclan and not the others, not bragging or anything. She was jolted out of her thoughts as Softlight started talking. It was still dark out as the sun was just starting to rise. The dawn patrol had left earlier, and Fallpaw actually felt sorry for them since the three of them, and Silverkit, woke them up in the middle of the night. The hardships of being a warrior, she thought.

“Hello? Fallpaw?” Softlight forever gentle eyes rested on Fallpaw’s face, which showed that she was in deep thought.

“Oh uh, yes?” Fallpaw said after shaking her head. There she went again, ranting off in her head. She thought too much while Roaringpaw thought about things too little. Crimsonpaw was the.. All-rounder, righteous, but she was too shy to do anything unless her friends did.

Softlight sighed as she saw Fallpaw drift off again. This would take a lot of work.

“Fallpaw, you’re going to have to make your own nest-” Softlight stated after another time of snapping Fallpaw out of her ‘state’.

“Wait, I don’t even know where to get moss!” Fallpaw cut off the medicine cat.

Soflight cleared her throat, showing that she wasn’t done with her sentence.

“You’re going to have to make you own nest, so follow me to get the materials. I’ll be able to point out some herbs on the way too, so it won’t be a complete waste of time that could have been used learning the names of herbs.” Softlight explained.

Fallpaw gave a small nod before Softlight padded out of the den and into the clearing of the camp. The medicine cat walked in such a way that she looked like she was gliding across the ground. Fallpaw showed some envy at her gracefulness. She glanced around at her surroundings as she trudged up the steep side of the camp. Roaringpaw and Crimsonpaw were no where to be seen, she realized, and assumed that they either went on a tour of the territory or they went straight to training. Softlight’s tail was engulfed by the thorn barrier which led outside. Fallpaw hesitated for a second before following her mentor. The dawn light was filtered by the emerald leaves that hung tightly onto the branches of their home.

“It’s a good thing you came to us in the middle of greenleaf, or almost everyone would be against you joining. Prey is becoming even scarcer in leafbare, most likely our doing, and we can’t accept anymore cats.” Softlight stated, glancing a clump of blue flowers that were growing by the roots of an oak tree.

“Borage leaves” she nodded at them, “a basic herb that is chewed and eaten by nursing queens to help them produce more milk and to help bring down fevers.”

Fallpaw nodded quickly.

They approached a tree covered in moss, and started stripping the tree of the spongy plant. Softlight watched as Fallpaw did most of the gathering as she taught her techniques on how to get only the moss and not any pieces of bark.

“Have you had any experience with herbs before today?”  Softlight asked, out of the blue.
