Hey guys! So lots of people are nearing the end of the term (YAY), which means assignments, exams and other assessment (not yay).
So here are some tips, coming from a 14 year old girl who should be studying.
Exams:
1. Colours
One tip for studying is to use different colours, This keep the brain interested and stretched, and it's easier to remember. You can do this a few different ways:
a - one colour per subject (example, red for math, blue for English, green for SOSE, orange for science, purple for drama). This is good because you can take that colour pen into an exam and when you see the colour your brain will be prompted to think of the items you studied. This is also bad because al of the information will be clumped under one colour. For example if 'red' is "math" then you will think about everything Math and forget bits.
b - one colour per sub category (eg red for fractions, blue for pythagoras theorem, green for chemical formulas, orange for important dates or wars, purple for clowning tension). This is good because everything has one colour and if you see blue you will immediately remember pythagoras and his bloody triangles (is it extremely obvious that that's what I'm studying?). A downside is that too many colours can overstimulate your brain and you could forget (Or you could run out of colours)
c - one colour for each sub-subject (eg blue for pythagoras, chemical formulas, dates/wars; purple for fractions, reactions, examples of globalization; green for volume, organs and slavery notes). An upside is that you have it all set out neatly. A drawback is that you might get purple out in a math exam and write down a chemical reaction of an acid and a metal.
2. Flashcards
This is what I'm trying! I'm using colours (option B if you must know) and they seem to work. My tips are to WRITE them out, not type (even if you have to google and write down the exact thing google says) because writing imprints it into the brain. Also, make sure you put it into your own words. One of my cards is on the side (On the other side/back of the card it says "Globalisation"). (YES I KNOW I HAVE MESSY WRITING) (I PROMISE YOU, NO NEED TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY WRITING!) )(Handwriting that is)
The format I use is literally write the topic on the back (Globalisation) so if you see it, you can try to remember everything you can.
Other side:
Topic: Globalisation
Definition: An increase in the flow of goods, services, people and capital across national borders in order to create a more integrated and interdependent world economy
Examples (things you can associate it with or think about if you forget the definition): Global trade, transnational corporations, global village, importing/exporting
Basically (in your own words): Everywhere in the world importing and exporting goods to raise the world economy.
Be warned I may be wrong! Because I don't listen in SOSE
But basically, you can then either test yourself by looking at one side and saying/writing everything you remember; you can try to get a fake exam (ask your teacher for questions) and see if you can do it; or you can work with a friend. They hold up the card and ask you questions, or you just have to recite everything you can remember.
