The rest of the day seemed fairly normal. They all went through the day wondering where Jess disappeared to. Kit felt bad being apart of what happened. 'But we're all in this together now. No man left out or behind. But I still feel like shit,' she thought to herself. Kit was sitting next to Shawn in the back of Math class.
"You okay?" Shawn asked and Kit's face got hot and she nodded.
"Shawn, you never told me what happened to your eyes. Did they just fix themselves?" Kit asked, curiously and he sighed.
"I was possessed- now don't start freaking out. It's not that big of a deal," Shawn said, holding up his hands. Kit started shaking.
"It's not just nothing! What happened?" Kit yelled in a hushed voice and Shawn pulled Kit closer to him.
"I called Jess, she was an old friend and I had a favor. I shouldn't have trusted her and I'm sorry," he pleaded with his eyes, feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Fine," Kit said and started to move away, but Shawn grabbed her arm.
"Hey, she's the reason I'm not possessed," Shawn said, sincerely. Kit jerked her arm away and crossed her arms.
"I said it's fine," Kit sighed. Shawn leaned back in his chair and sighed.
"Hey," Kit whispered and slid Shawn a piece of paper.
"Do you want to come over my house after school today?"
It was written in Kit's unique script. It's a mixture between English script and normal print because Kit couldn't remember some letters like 'b' and 'z'. Shawn smirked and nodded his head, and that made Kit smiled.
"Cool, I'll see you later," she whispered. The bell rang and Kit went to History. Of course, she was late to class.
"You're late, Connors," Mr. Yang said, looking down at his watch.
"Yep," Kit said as she sat down next to Lee. Mr. Yang smiled and shrugged.
"So today you're going to sit here and learn about..." he droned on about nothing important. Kit could only think about her parents. She wanted to know so badly what happened to them. She wanted to know who did it, if it was anyone's fault at all. Her parents were the most careful people ever from what people have told her. They'd buy candles but never light them because they'd be to afraid to leave the room with it lit. Alternatively, they couldn't babysit the candle because then they'd be too close to it. It just made her wonder, how could they have let the whole house burn down?
"Do you think he's actually saying anything or is he just babbling?" Lee whispered to Kit and it jolted her back to reality.
"Uh-I don't know," she bullshitted her way through the rest of History. Whenever Mr. Yang would ask a question she just shook her head or shrugged.
When the bell rang, Kit grabbed her bag and ran out of the classroom. Walking out of the school, Kit saw Pat. His face was bruised red and purple. The only thing that made her realize it was him was his blood-stained Varsity Jacket that had his name printed on the right sleeve. He saw Kit but immediately looked away and walked faster away from her.
"That was weird," Kit said to herself. Kit walked out of the school looking for Shawn. She started walking down the road leading to her house when she turned the corner and saw Shawn standing at a street corner. He was looking down with both his earbuds in, smoking a cigarette. He looked like something out of a chick flick, the way he was standing with his hands in his pockets. The way his shoulders were slightly elevated because he was cold. The way the embers became brighter when he inhaled. His teeth were clenched which made his jaw more pronounced. 'I didn't know he smoked,' Kit thought to herself, feeling slightly disappointed.
