Eight o'clock. The Barn. Kit followed Will's instructions to the hour. Kit looked down at her phone. 7:55; perfect. Kit walked into the local bar wearing dark blue skinny jeans and a cropped sweater under her coat. Being under eighteen, she had to bring someone who was in order to get in and if Tracey knew that she was here, she'd kill her.

"Don't do anything stupid and if you break our deal, I'm gonna kill you," Noah, who just conveniently turned nineteen, threatened. They made a pact that neither would tell Tracey they went out.

Kit walked over to the stage, where the boys were setting up.

"Hey, there!" Kit said, surprising Shawn. He turned and smiled at Kit.

"You came," he said, still smiling.

"Why wouldn't I?" Kit asked and he shrugged. "Hey, I'd hate to put you out like this, but we need a female vocalist," Shawn squatted down and whispered, "Jess said she'd do it but honestly, we really don't want her to 'cause she sucks," Shawn whispered, making sure Jess didn't hear. She was sitting at a table in the front row. Kit tilted her head.

"Why the hell would Jess be here?" she asked.

"Because, she's my girlfriend," Shawn said, looking down. Kit's heart dropped into her stomach and shattered. She felt the sleepy burn of tears in her eyes but she closed her eyes, trying to suppress them.

"What song?" Kit asked, feeling down. Kit felt like he only wanted her to come because his girlfriend was a shitty singer. She felt like she couldn't let him down though. If there was someone here with any kind of hierarchy in the music business, then she couldn't let Jess ruin that for them. Shawn looked up at Kit hopefully.

"Broken by Seether. Do you know it?" Shawn asked, hoping she'd do it. He knew she wouldn't have come if she knew Jess was going to be here. Kit nodded and he smiled. Kit felt that he only did this to embarrass her or hurt her. He didn't need another person to sing Broken, it was a solo track that Seether later did with Amy Lee. Kit felt like such an idiot for trusting him.

Then, she let it sit for a minute and thought that he didn't have to make it a duet. That maybe he wanted to sing it with her and Jess might have brought it up. Kit tore herself thinking about the possibilities of him thinking of her or Jess.

"Cool. I'll call you up when we're gonna play it," Shawn said and Kit nodded. "Hey Kit," Shawn said before Kit sat down, "thank you."

She sat down on a stool at the bar and watched the boys get ready. Most of the time really, she just stared at her phone trying not to look absolutely distraught. Jess walked over to Shawn who was almost done setting up.

"So when are we going to sing together, Baby? I'm gonna see if I can be a bigger star than I obviously am," Jess asked swaying and grinning. Shawn took a deep breath.

"I actually asked someone else to sing for you. You said you didn't know the words anyways so I asked Kit," Shawn said and Jess looked at the bar. Jess took an angry deep breath and sat back down and quickly texted someone on her phone. She looked up from her phone and smiled at Shawn and he smiled back.

Kit listened to them play Come as You Are by Nirvana, Shipping up to Boston by The Dropkick Murphys, and Jessie's girl by Rick Springfield. Before that song ended, someone came over and leaned into the space in front of Kit.

"Can I help you?" Kit asked. He turned around and looked at Kit. He had dark, deep, brown eyes and shiny, dark hair. He had a resemblance to Zachary Quinto. The only problem was he looked way older than Kit. Mid-twenties wasn't that old, but it was old enough to send him to prison.

"I'm sorry, I didn't notice you," he said, sincerely. Kit looked away and thought how that was the story of her life. "Hi, I'm Demetrius, you can call me Demetry," he said in a smooth voice.
