Angels That Are Devils

━━━━━━━━

IT DIDN'T TAKE her and Rebekah long to find out that Klaus wasn't actually dead, just desiccated. The thought wasn't any better but at least it was something. However, Athena still felt the void in her chest like he was indeed dead. It still felt as if someone in her pack had died. She allowed this to fuel her anger towards the Mystic Falls gang. At this point, the only one she could actually stand was Caroline.

Elijah went to go make a deal with them while Athena and Rebekah waited for their cue to go and retrieve Klaus. The idea was stupid, though it was fair according to her older, noble brother. She understood that what Klaus did was wrong in their eyes, but he was still her brother. And living without him for hundreds of years hurt her. But it was better than him being dead for all eternity.

And once again, Rebekah presented the opportunity for them to go look for her "soulmate". Athena didn't know if he was out there, hopefully, he was. She had brought up the point that their other siblings would love to help, just Athena didn't think she was ready. Never had she been in a relationship, and never had she been in love before. It was all new to her.

Something positive that came out of the deal was that Elijah had said that if the Mystic Falls gang did not keep up the deal, Athena could kill Elena. This kept her from just slaughtering them all. Athena was itching to just kill the doppelganger for all that she had done to her family. Now that was fair.

Rebekah hung up the call with Elijah and got back into the car. "That was Elijah, we are to go and retrieve Nik."

Her sister sighed, looking over at her. "Do you think this is a good idea? When we wake Nik up, he'll be so furious."

"He'll get over it."

Rebekah started the car and then drove off toward the warehouse where they were meeting up with Damon. The ride was silent. Finally, they arrived and took the elevator to the correct floor. Unbeknownst to them, Alaric was already there and searching for Klaus's coffin.

They walked through the hall and Rebekah shouted, "Damon! Damon, where are you?"

No response and they continued on to another hallway. Athena rolled her eyes. "Come on Damon! This isn't a time for games!"

A bad feeling erupted in the pit of her stomach and she tapped Rebekah. Her sister turned to her and she gave her a look. Rebekah knew what she was getting at and they continued on, now ready for a fight.

There was a crashing sound but they went on. Someone grabbed them from behind and pulled them over, covering their mouth. It was Damon. He whispered so Alaric wouldn't hear them. "Shhhh. It's just me."

He removed his hand and Athena listened to the footsteps. She nodded to them and then they flashed to the storage room where Klaus was. Athena broke the lock quietly, catching it in her hand before it hit the floor.

Rebekah and Damon began to wheel the coffin out and down the hallway. Right before they got to the car, Alaric flashed in front of them. They all stopped dead in their tracks. He grabbed Rebekah and slammed her head against the car, throwing her to the ground. Athena flashed to him but he was quicker, throwing her to the wall. Damon was next, being kicked in the stomach, sending him to the ground.

Alaric opened the casket and pulled out the white oak stake. Time seemed to slow. Rebekah and Athena flashed up, both screaming, "No!"

But it was too late. Klaus was stabbed in the heart and Rebekah and Athena screamed. Tears instantly flowed down their cheeks and Damon held them back. Their brother's body set on fire and Athena felt it.

The wire had snapped

Her whole body felt numb and she fell into Damon's arms as she sobbed. He yelled to Rebekah. "You have to go, now! Take Athena and run!"

Rebekah listened and grabbed her sister, flashing them away from the scene. She was forced to drag her sister, kicking and screaming. Athena had not felt this pain before. It was like her own body was on fire, but at the same time, she couldn't feel anything at all. The feeling was worse than when Finn die. Her human emotions clashed with the feeling of losing her pack mate.

In New Orleans, Thomas was destroying his entire apartment. Athena didn't know that nor could she feel it because she didn't remember him. But he could. Every single tear she shed, he threw another object. Every single scream of agony she yelled, he broke something. It was all because he wasn't there for her like he should be.

Elijah was waiting for them patiently in the woods. Rebekah finally stopped running and held her sister to her chest, crying. Their brother turned around and saw them. Rebekah shook her head. "He's gone, Elijah. There was nothing we could do to stop it."

Tears filled his eyes and they ran toward each other, embracing. When they pulled away Athena wiped her tears. "They're still alive. It doesn't make sense."

"Then we were wrong," Elijah replied.

Athena looked ahead of them and at the forest. "I don't want to run." They both looked at her. Her gaze moved to them. "I don't want to run, please."

Rebekah exchanged a look with Elijah. She sniffled and wiped her tear. "Then there's only one thing we can do."

———

It didn't matter if Elijah didn't approve. Athena didn't care at that point, neither did Rebekah. Both of her older siblings didn't want to run either. So there was only one option left. Elijah had called Stefan, letting him know that he did not wish to run anymore, neither did his sisters. By the time Stefan realized what he meant, Rebekah and Athena were already at Wickery Bridge.

They stood in the middle of the road. Both wore solemn faces as they watched Matt swerve. His pickup truck went over the edge of the bridge and into the water. And if people were to see what had happened, they would've seen two sisters, walking away, holding hands. They were angels with intentions of demons. Because they did not care that they had just killed two people.

From that moment forward, Athena Mikaelson would never be the same.

Short chapter! This is the last chapter of the first part! We are now in season 4. Episodes might be skipped because Athena might not fit into them. And if I did try and fit in her an episode where she didn't fit, the chapter wouldn't be so great.

But on the bright side, we are nearing the end of this book! Which means we are nearing Thomas and Athena meeting... again.
