I looked into the full length mirror. The white satin clung to all my curves. I gave a disgusted look as my eyes roamed from my feet to my face. The dress was hot and stuffy. I felt like I couldn't move. My mom stood next to me with a smile on her face.
"I can't believe my baby is getting married!"
She gave me a slight side hug so she wouldn't mess up my hair, dress, or make-up.
"Please don't make me do this mom. Please, just let me back out now while I still can."
My eyes were wide as they begged her to agree to my pleads. A pout formed on her lips and she shook her head.
"No. You are not backing out of this Laney. Your father and I have put a lot of thought and time into this and you will go through with it."
I looked to the floor and let out a small sigh. This was not how I thought the rest of my life would start. These last two months had been such a blur.
**Flashback**
I walked through the garage door and hung my keys on the hook. I took a seat at the table as I pulled out my phone and sipped on a black cherry soda. Things had been crazy for the past couple weeks. I graduated school, started a summer job, and was looking at different colleges I could attend this coming fall.I heard the back door opened and my dad walked in from work. The clicking of heels on the stairs told me that my mom was coming down the stairs.
"What's for dinner?" I asked as she appeared at the bottom step. My dad gave her a quick kiss and they both turned towards me.
"We're having meatloaf."
I nodded my head and continued to scroll through my phone. The chairs across from me were pulled out making a scrapping noise on the tile. My parents sat down and they both clasped their hands in front of them. I slowly looked up and saw them staring at me.
"Um. Can I help you?" I asked as I lowered my phone down onto the table.
"Honey," my mom reached across the table and grabbed my hand. "We have a surprise for you."
"Oh gosh please tell me you're not pregnant!" My mind was swimming with ideas of what the surprise might be, but I had seen many tv shows and read many books that had this same scenerio and the mom was always pregnant.
"What?! No no no. Haha you're the only child we will be having." My dad chuckled as a reliefed look took over my face.
"Okay what is it then?"
"Well. Laney. You know your father and I want what's best for you. And now that you have graduated and you are moving on with your life, we want you to always have someone to watch you and take care of you. We love you so much and we want you to find someone who will you can love and charish the way that I love and charish your father."
My dad nodded his head in agreement and I slowly removed my hand from my mom's grasp.
"Wh-what's going on?" They were really beginning to freak me out.
There was a knock on the front door and my dad got up to go answer it. My mom stood from her chair and smoothed down her dress. She grabbed my arm and pulled me up beside her.
"Mom what are you doi-"
"Hello Chad! I'm so glad you could join us tonight for dinner." My mom leaned in to hug the unfamiliar boy that was now standing in our dining room.
They pulled away and the boy walked over to me and pulled me into a tight embrace. "Laney, you look lovely!" He placed a kiss on my cheek and I pulled away quickly.
