*Harry POV*

I sat in the hallway, my back pressed against the wall. I knew it was wrong to be listening to the girls talk, but a part of me needed to be sure that I knew the truth and that there were no more lies or secrets.

Most of her story was stuff I already knew or things that led to things I already knew about. I did learn the reason she wasn't eating much though and I wanted to punch the bastard for saying that to Laney.

Laney had just finished telling Gemma about Chad breaking into mine and Liam's apartment. I quietly got up off the floor, not wanting to blow my cover. There was nothing more in the story that I hadn't been a part of so I figured I should go to bed.

The next words that left Laney's mouth caused me to drop my phone. I reached down to grab my phone off the floor and nearly dropped it again when the loud music filled the empty hallway.

I pushed every button I could trying to get the music to stop. The door opened and Laney and Gemma stood watching me, questioning looks in their eyes. I looked down at my phone again, I would have to explain myself later. The number flashing across  my screen was unfamiliar and it was four in the morning. Who the hell is calling at four in the morning? I swiped my finger across the screen and held the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Hello. Is this...um..Harry...uh..." I heard papers being shuffled in the background.

"Styles! Is this Harry Styles?" Laney and Gemma had both stepped closer in hopes of hearing the call. I quickly ushered them back inside the room and shut the door behind us. I didn't want to wake my parents although they are probably still awake from Laney's ear piercing scream.

"Erm, yeah. This is Harry. Who is this?" My manners and patience were long gone already today and it's only four in the morning.

"This is Tracy. I talked to you earlier on the phone about your friend Liam Payne."

"Oh yeah! Tracy! How is he? Is he going to be okay? What happened? Can I talk to him? Is anyone there with him?" A slight chuckle came from the other end of the phone as I paced back and forth in the room.

"Hold on, hold on. One question at a time. Liam is stable right now. Stable is neither good or bad at this point. He had to undergo two strenuous surgeries when he arrived at the hospital. They had to remove the bullet that hadn't exited, and then they had to go in and find what kind of damage had been done to his inner organs. The shot effected mostly his liver, and some of his small intestine. But a good chunk of his muscle around his abdomen has also been torn and shredded."

"Did they fix it? Is he going to be okay?"

"Harry I promise you that we had our best surgeons in on this case. They took care of his organs, but the muscles is not just something they can sew back together. I don't know much more about the case right now. He just got back from surgery and he is currently placed in the intensive care unit. His girlfriend...I think her name is Sophia...she is here with him. We have contacted family and they were going to take the next flight out here but they said it would probably be twelve hours or so."

Laney and Gemma had now sat down on the bed beside me. I could feel Laney's small hand rubbing against my back and just the feel from her touch relaxed me. I'll admit that I was a nervous wreck. My best friend gets shot and I'm in a completely different country. I should be there with him and Sophia. I should be there....but I'm not...because I have to also protect the girl beside me. I took a deep breath, trying to let everything sink in.

"So where do we go from here?"

"Well, these first twenty four hours are going to be extremely critical. We have multiple nurses and physicians watching over your friend. After these twenty four hours, we should be able to know better about his condition and how things are going to turn out. His girlfriend is sitting in his room right now. Would you like for me to transfer you down to her?"
