As the sudden break of dawn exploded the sky into a million different colors overlooking the state of Rhode Island, a man rose up from his bed. He had long brown hair, which stuck up from his pillow. He stretched out his arms and yawned, as he turned out of his bed, putting on a pair of comfortable slippers. He walked through the room over to a radio, as he popped in a small tape, and a quick tune of a piano began to play. He walked into the bathroom as the sudden running of water began to set the room in a warm misty tone. He soon walked back out, wrapped in a towel, as he began to dress himself. He put on a blank white t-shirt, along with a black leather jacket over it, which had plenty of dark blood stains blending into it, following with a dark pair of jeans and boots. He walked over to his closet, pulling down a clean large wooden box, as he unlocked it and opened it. He pulled out a large assault rifle, as he began to put it back together, twisting on a large silencer at the end of the barrel.
He stepped out of his room, equipped with the rifle, as he walked through the large hangar bay."Mornin' Tony!" A voice called out to the man, as he tilted his cap down to greet him.
"G'morning." Tony replied, as he continued to walk through the large hangar holding his rifle.
He finally made it down to the front of it, where a large metal wall was placed. He climbed up the latter, standing at the top of it, as he positioned his rifle out into the airfield. The community was set in a large airfield, most of the people living inside one of the hangars. There were fences surrounding the airfield, but the main metal wall surrounded the inner hangar bay. Tony looked around the airfield, making sure no walkers managed to get through the outer fence and to make sure no one snuck in. He sat up there all morning until noon, watching the airfield. The hangar bay held over 50 people and had a well established civilization. Each person had a job, as long as they were old enough. Each person above the age of 19 was able to qualify for a job outside the airfield, but any person above the age of 15 is able to work inside the bay.
James sat in a stiff chair, inside a large medical tent inside the main hangar. He was sitting next to a bed, which had Lisa laying in it. James's eyes were closed, as he had dozed off, but quickly woke up to the sound of Lisa's panicking.
"Where are we!" She yelled suddenly, as she looked around the tent, her eyes finally landing on James.
"Relax- calm down, okay? We're safe." James said, as he grabbed Lisa's hands, calming her down.
"Where are we?" Lisa asked, as her breathing was heavy.
"We're inside a medical tent- inside an airfield. It's a community. Okay? It's safe. It's well secured and highly protected. Nothing's getting in here." James said.
"How long have I been asleep for?" Lisa asked.
"A few days. We were driving here when you suddenly passed out. Possibly from panic but the doctor wasn't sure. What matters now is that you're awake and you're healing. . .your leg." James said, as Lisa had forgotten.
Lisa pulled the blanket off from her, revealing her right leg in a cast and her left ankle wrapped in a bandage. "What happened I- I don't remember. Will my leg be okay?" Lisa said, as her voice began to tremble.
"Your leg will be fine. Along with your ankle." A voice appeared from a man that entered the tent. "My name is Dr. Panning, but you can just called me Eddie. It's nice to finally meet you." The man said, as he held his hand out to Lisa.
Lisa looked at him, still a bit startled about everything that was going on, as she shook his hand. The doctor was a tall man, at least above 6 feet tall, with short blonde hair along with glasses. He wore a white lab coat, along with khaki pants and dress shoes.
"How long will it take to heal?" Lisa asked.
"Your leg should take about 6-7 weeks. Your ankle should be fine in a few days, just don't put too much pressure on it. Of course you're going to need crutches but for now, we have you a wheel chair." Eddie said, as he pulled it around for her. "Whenever you're reading, it's here for you. I believe your boyfriend will help you with it?" Eddie asked, looking over at James.
"Oh--I'm not-" James said confused, as he looked at Lisa, then back at Eddie. "Of course I'll help- thanks doc." He said, as Eddie nodded, walking out of the tent.
"Boyfriend?" Lisa asked as he looked at James, confused.
"He must've assumed." James said jokingly as he stood up from the chair, and Lisa let out a small chuckle. "Ready to see what you're up against?" James asked, as Lisa nodded.
He helped her out of the bed and into the wheel chair, as he rolled her out of the tent and into the hangar. "Woah." Lisa said, as the huge hangar bay was filled with other tents and shops, almost like a farmers market but everything is free. "These people really thrived, didn't they?" Lisa said, as James began to roll her through the hangar.
"Looks that way." James said, as they looked around at the different shops filled with crops and resources.
He rolled her over to the large entrance of the hangar, which had a large metal wall in front of it.
"Are we allowed to leave?" Lisa asked, looked up at the large wall.
"I'm not sure- I never asked I guess." James said.
There were two guards on the wall at the moment, both facing the other direction.
"Why would we want to leave?" James asked.
"I mean- when my leg heals I think we should..." Lisa said.
"Well until then, let's not worry about it. It seems like we're guests here." James said, as he turned her around, rolling back into the hangar bay.
James continued to push Lisa through the large airplane hangar, as they began to notice signs on the walls.
"What is that?" Lisa asked, as James rolled her over to it.
There was a large piece of paper taped to the wall, reading 'VOTE FOR SAMUEL'.
"Who's Samuel?" Lisa asked confusingly.
"You don't know who Samuel is?" A woman suddenly budded in, as she was putting up the posters.
"We just got here a few days ago- still not fully adjusted." James added in.
"Samuel is one of the sons of the original creator of this place, David Fitz. He passed away 2 weeks ago, so now Samuel and his brother Elishah are leaving it up to the people to decide who becomes the next 'creator'. Isn't that exciting?" The woman said, acting enthusiastic about the situation, as Lisa and James stared at her with confusion. "Samuel will win. He's clearly the better pick and he's the older over Eli by 5 years. He'll win." The woman said, as she continued to put up the posters.
James slowly began to roll Lisa away from the scene, as they went back towards the man part of the hangar.
"That was odd- right? It's not only me who thinks that was extremely insane?!" Lisa said, as James shook his head.
"No I'm right there with you. They're defiantly over their heads with this place." James said.
He began to roll Lisa back over to the medical tent, as suddenly a loud announcement blasted over the coms.
"THERE WILL BE A COMMUNITY MEETING IN 10 MINUTES. THIS IS A MANDATORY EVENT." The deep voice echoed through the hangar, as a ear piercing ring ended the announcement.
"Community meeting?" Lisa asked confusingly. "James- what did you get us mixed in?"
"I'm not too sure myself-" James said, as he saw the people of the community begin to walk into the middle of the hangar, as Lisa and James got stuck in the middle of it all, forcing them into the mix of the complicated drama of the hangar community.
