"I didn't want to treat you like that, no one did. It's just that there is something we couldn't share with you and we had to distance ourselves." Emily says as tears flow down her face.
"But why treat me the way you did?" I bluntly blurt out without thinking. After I saw the look on her face, I instantly regretted it. Maybe I was being too harsh but at the same time look at what they put me through all of my life."There are so many things you don't know, brother. All will be answered in time, I promise." She said while squeezing my hand.
It had been a few minutes so I decided to try and move. I wanted to get off of my stomach and lay on my side because my neck was starting o kink. I tested the waters by bracing myself up with my arms. They didn't seem to be too sore so I went turn on my side when Emily stopped me.
"You probably don't want to do that." She said with a sad look. She motioned to a mirror on a dresser across the room. "Do you want to see why?" I shrug, "Why not."
I got up slowly and with the help of Emily. Everything is still super stiff and there was the mysterious weight on my back again.
After the trek to the mirror, I look up to something you only see in fairy tales. Behind me, I see massive red wings with black tips. I reach up to find most of the wing, I guess that's what I would call it, was mostly a membranous material.
With a look of aw on my face, I ask, "How?"
Emily puts her hand on my shoulder and in a low voice she says, "You're a dragon shifter, Liam. We all are."
How is it so far? Please comment what you think!
