The words took awhile to sink in. How was this possible? My black and white way of looking at the world had totally been flipped upside down by the realization of another side of our world. "How does this happen, Emily?" I asked breaking the silence that had been there for several minutes.
"To make it simple, there is a human world and a supernatural world. You have been kept in the human world because you didn't exhibit any signs of being a shifter. Usually, there are gradual signs as a child grows that indicates if they have the ability to shift but I guess you didn't." She sighed before she continued, "You were kept in the human world because of the fear of our race being exposed. It's a general rule for most supernatural beings not to expose themselves to humans no matter how close they are to them." With that said she guided me over to the bed to sit back down. I didn't realize how tired I was till I was back on the bed.
"So, I've got a question. How come my wings are not going back or whatever they do? I look at you and don't see any." She plops down beside me and faces me.
"I'm not sure why you are in both forms at once. Usually, this only happens when one of us is trying to change into their dragon form. It never lasts this long without progressing or going back to human form." I guess this just makes me more of an oddball.
"So, what do you think we should do now?" She sighs before answering.
"I think we should just lay low here for awhile. I mean we did break you out of a hospital after a deadly accident. Come on, are you up to having something to eat? Changing can make you really hungry." I hadn't realized it but I was extremely hungry. My stomach growled moments later to confirm this. Emily gets up and takes my hand.
"Do you think you're up to walking to the living room." I shake my head yes while using Emily as support to get up. Once I'm standing, I have to stand in a certain way to make sure I am balanced. It feels like these wings weigh a ton.
I found going through doorways a bit of a challenge. I had difficulty folding my wings in so they fit through the frame.
"Do you have a problem controlling your eh dragon parts? I'm having problems folding them." She looks back at me with another sad expression before saying, "No, it has always felt like an extension of myself. It was no different than moving my hands or feet." She looked away after that and lead me into the kitchen where all my siblings were. I could smell the meat they were cooking before we even got close to the kitchen. Once we were there, I was faced with the shocked faces of my brothers.
