This chapter is dedicated to Harry, Timothy and James. One and the same but all terrific friends.
Stan's point of view.
Jesus Christ, what a day and at last Dipper, Ford and Wendy will finally be back. We'd driven and flown all over Gravity falls just to get Daffy duck back, fought a ten foot lizard and been assaulted from the air but I'll be relieved when they leave that bubble. I knew something stupid like this would have happened and I'd have to give up my evening, I should probably make them work double time tomorrow to make up for it.
The bubble pulsated faster and faster whilst a high pitched whine built to an unbearable level, I grabbed hold of Mabel and ran towards the entrance of the cave holding her with Soos in hot pursuit. I glimpsed behind us as we ran for it, the bubble exploded into blue flames with a roar. I dived out of the cave with a yell while the flames lapped at my heels. I let go of Mabel who immediately ran back to the cave, but just before she reached the cave out emerged a rather scorched and blackened Dipper, Ford and Wendy. They'd made it out.
Mabel ran over and hugged Dipper straight away. She whooped with joy whilst I tried to wipe away some of the tears from my eyes. Soos practically crushed Dipper, Mabel and Wendy in one gigantic hug. He spoke.
"Dudes, never do that again to us." He squeezed them even tighter. Ford was distant from the embrace so I walked over to him.
"Ford, don't tell them I told you... but thanks for keeping them safe today."
"That's quite alright Stanley, thank you for keeping Mabel safe." I laughed thinking back to Beaky and our adventure.
"You don't know the half of it."
I turned back to look at the other four who had now separated and were telling their respective stories from the night.
Wendy's point of view.
Mabel was rattling through everything that had happened to her at breakneck pace and I was struggling to keep up.
"... so Beaky got picked up by this massive lizard thing and then...... we were at the train station..... Beaky was in the clock..... and after that the Draco crashed into the car...." Soos nodded along catching onto every word. ".... we flew through the sky like a massive balloon... but then we had to say goodbye but he was happy to go. So what happened to you guys you look terrible?" I looked towards Dipper to see if he was going to answer but he was still catching his breath from Soos's enormous bear hug. He'd been so brave tonight, if the others weren't here I'd be giving him the biggest hug ever. He deserved it. I answered Mabel.
"Well, I can't speak for what happened before Dipper and Ford found me, but first we had to make a deal with Bill." I saw Mabel flinch. "But it was all right since he didn't have any powers and knew how that universe worked. Then we had to ride these massive creatures and we got attacked by flying kitchen equipment utensils. But we hid behind these giant cats' shields so that was fine. Then Dipper pulled me out from this fish gunk." I shivered at the thought of the stench. I looked down to still see a bit of calamari on my leg. Mabel nudged Dipper and spoke.
"Oh bro bro, you did get be the knight in shining armour after all." Dipper flushed a little red and I giggled.
"Shush Mabel, it wasn't that bigger deal." He tried to hide his smile and act like it didn't matter. I continued with the story.
I thought about how the world cracked in two and glanced at Dipper again and decided to miss this part. I didn't want Mabel to tease Dipper too much. "Finally we got to this reef full of fish but made of tins, I dunno, it was all weird, then we were chased by sharks while we rode the back of a manta ray. And then we leaped into the bubble. That was it really." Mabel and Soos were open mouthed throughout my explanation while Dipper nodded along enthusiastically.
It was at that moment that Stan called over.
"Kids, I'm going home. You've given me far too much bother this evening. See you tomorrow Wendy. "
Mabel and Soos jogged over to him and Ford while me and Dipper stood facing the cave entrance and I thought about what a crazy evening it had been and how kind Dipper had been to me. Dipper started talking.
"Er Wendy... I've got a quick stop off in the forest before I get home so I'll see you tomorrow." He tipped his hat to me and began to walk off into the woods. I couldn't let him go just like that, after all he'd done for me this evening. When I needed his comfort he was there for me and I hadn't really said thanks.
"Dipper wait! Do you want any company?" He tugged at his jacket nervously and tried to play it cool. Clearly he didn't want to push his luck this evening, I mean he'd already hugged me for about an hour.
"Its cool Wendy, like Stan said I'll see you tomorrow." He stumbled over his feet as he tried to walk away but kind of like he wanted to stay as well, almost as if fighting himself. Even for him he was incredibly nervous and was sweating profusley. I sighed, he must really like me. I took two steps towards him and knelt down besides him and before he could lean away I placed a little peck on his cheek. It only lasted a moment but the huge smile that flashed across his face was worth every microsecond of the kiss. He glowed bright red and his hazel eyes shone. He struggled to get any words out.
"Thanks erm... er... see you tomorrow red." He beamed at me.
