Skylar
Chaos settled over the Elysian House as we sent all the kids back to their homes. It wasn't an easy thing to do, since most kids who came here weren't from the city, so we had to take care of their plane tickets. Officers were stretched thin, and the amount of injured Officers we had was incredible. We barely had enough Officers on their feet. My head was swarming with anxiety and stress about this whole situation.
Not to mention we had to make sure there were Guards on duty at all times, just in case there was yet another attack on the Elysian House.
I was walking through the halls, attempting to figure myself out. I had to figure out the problem of not having enough Guards on duty. Most of them were too injured to walk. The stress was getting to me and no matter what I thought of that could help was easily thrown to the wind a second later when I found a fault in the plan.
Doubts had begun to resurface as this was the first time I was in charge without Del at my side.
Del was still bed ridden, despite her telling me time and time again that she was able to help me, I didn't want her to. I wanted to prove to her and to myself that I was capable of this job. I wasn't going to let her think of me incapable again.
While on my way back to my office, to figure out this issue of not enough soldiers on duty, I was stopped by Constantine, who seemed to love to make my stress even worse.
"Countess Nova," he says, intercepting my walk. "May I have a word with you?"
"No, Count Constantine, you may not," I told him, moving to walk around him. He stepped in my way again.
"This is urgent."
"If it is about Riley Jackson and Viola Chase, I've already told you what we're going to do about that. We are not discussing this again."
His face settles in a scowl. He leans in close to my face, so close I can smell the alcohol on his breath. I didn't blame him for drinking, though. I was stressed beyond believe, getting drunk sounded amazing right now.
"Countess Nova, I urge you to change your mind on this. Wasn't this the whole reason we were brought down here? To take down Snow?"
"Yes, Count Constantine. But we must do our part in this. Riley is the one who has to end Snow, and we will not interfere with that, and neither will Viola," though, I hope she does. I didn't want her to fail. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose your mate.
He sighs, and clenches his jaw. "You're wrong, Countess Nova. If anybody can bring her back, it's Viola Chase." He walks past me, leaving his words in the air between us. He was right, but I was not about to admit that, since I was hoping he was right.
I made my way back to my office, and when I entered the room, I found Del standing with a female Officer. My eyebrows lowered in concern for my Knight, I didn't want her walking around right now.
When I walked inside, they both turned to me and I closed up the door behind me.
"How can I help you?" I ask, keeping my eyes on the female Officer.
She seems a bit shocked to see me and quickly moves to take a bow in front of me. "C-Countess Nova, it's an honor to meet you."
I raise my hand so she won't say anymore. I was over the bows and the pleasantries I had to get around just to talk about the actual subject. "What can I do for you, Officer?"
"Uh," she stands up straight again, and when she does, I realize she's a human. It was bizarre. Viola Chase was the only human we had working in this industry and it wasn't very often that we saw humans working in an industry specifically for Vampires. Yet, here she was. "Well, actually, I had an idea I'd like to share with you."
