It had been four days since I was kicked out of my apartment so I'd been staying in a hotel. I hadn't even started to look for a new place to stay and this Hampton Inn wasn't cutting it. Earlier this morning I made an appointment with a realtor so I could start looking.
Unfortunetly I never could find my keys so I had to call the Ford dealership and a locksmith just to get my car unlocked. My phone never showed up either, but I already went back to Verizon where they decided to charge me twice what I should be paying because it wasn't time for my upgrade. This week has been fantastic.
Plus, today was the seventeenth so I was currently on my way to James' apartment so we could go to his family mediation to try and get his daughter back. I couldn't even get a decent shower today due to the lack of water pressure in the hotel. There's probably still conditioner in my hair.
Finally I arrived at his front door and knocked.
"Come in!" James hollared from a close room.
I twisted the door handle to find it unlocked, "You know, you shouldn't leave your door unlocked then yell for someone to come in the house. I could've been coming here to kill you."
"I was expecting you so I just figured it was you, but this isn't important. We need to get going."
"OK let's go."
I followed him down to the parking lot and looked for his motorcycle, but I couldn't find it.
"Uh, where's the bike?"
Instead of giving me a verbal answer he unlocked a near by black Ford Explorer. "I figured if I was gonna have a baby with me I should at least have a car that I can drive her in."
"That was nice of you, I know you loved your bike." I walked over to the passenger door of his new car and got in, followed by James getting into the drivers seat.
He sighed, "Now as much as I love when you're not being all sarcastic with me, but I'm gonna need to stop that for a moment. So, this reason, or the real reason I should say that I asked you to help me is because I told the judge and Bonnie* that you were my girlfriend... So you're gonna have to pretend and be my girlfriend. "
He was right, my demeaner completely changed upon him telling me this information, "Why would you do that!"
"I'm sorry but I thought it would be better if the judge thought that someone was over here a lot and it asn't only me.. Please. I need this. So if we need to you can just let me..." His sentence trailed off, but he leaned over and pressed his lips gingerly against mine.
I looked over at him and saw the look on his face that meant he was serious and he didn't even acknowledge the fact that he kissed me. "Fine, but this is the last time I do some crazy thing for you. You owe me." I sad pointing at him.
The rest of the day and the mediation went well. I basically told the judge how good James is with Mariana and how yes, I will be helping him. He then decided Bonnie had no right to keep Mariana from him and that James should get weekdays while Bonnie got weekends. Now all is well and he has his baby back.
"Thank you for helping me. I really owe you."
I nodded, "I know you do, and you're welcome. But I have an appointment with a realtor in twenty minutes so could you take me back to your apartment so I can get my car?"
"Sure, let's go."
------------
The realtor showed me three apartments and two condos. I think my favorite was one of the condos right outside the city. There were two bedrooms, a bathroom and a nice sized kitchen, plus it was inside of my price range and it was only ten minutes away from my job.
The realtor had gone back out to there car and let me look for a couple more minutes, when she comes back in I think I'm going to tell her I'll take it.
For most people moving is a very stressful situation, but since I've done it so many times I've actually come to enjoy looking through the different apartments. Taking one last look at the kitchen and the backyard (which was actually a decent size for being in a big city) I decided I can see myself living here.
"So Rose, tell me. Have you seen anything today that you could move right into? Give me your two top choices." Jane asked me.
"Actually Jane, I like this one and it would be really great if I could move in this week."
She started searching through her accordian folder and put out a packet, "If you're ready now we can sign the papers here."
"Sure, and thanks for helping me find a place." She handed me a pen and I begin to write my name and phone number in the designated places.
"Of course, it's a shame you were evicted for such an interesting reason. When I showed you that place the guy seemed nice. I think he was just trying to get you out for a reason."
Huh.
Jane was my realtor when I originally moved to Detroit and showed me my previous apartment if you haven't guessed already. We keep in touch because she was the first person I met here and she's really nice. Whenever I told her what happened with the eviction and not being able to get a new key she was really upset and even told me she was going to call the HOA, but I told her it really wasn't that important.
I signed on the last few lines and she put the papers back into her folder, "Excellent. I will give these to the landlord and you should be able to move in later this week. Oh and your first payment will be due on the 28th."
"Thanks again Jane."
Now for the fun part, actually moving.
[A/N I am so sorry it's so short. Also this isn't edited so ignore any spelling mistakes. I'm about to go to a concert so I don't have a bunch of time but I still wanted to give you something. I'll give you a good update soon.]
