It was March now and it was still bitter cold out, but the weather was finally starting to clear out. It hadn't snowed in a while which helped to keep the temperatures a little higher than normal.
Currently I was sitting in the corner of a small coffee shop with James and Mariana. We hadn't gotten the chance to hang out much recently since he was so busy with Mariana and I was preoccupied with my new relationship. The relationship that he still did not approve of as he let me know earlier today.
"I'm just saying, how well do you know this guy?" He asked while we were on the topic of Marshall.
"James! We have been together for three months now. I think I know him well enough. Why do you always have to be so negative? Always." I snapped at him.
I had Mariana in my arms who was clearly becoming upset from the arguing. When James noticed her squirming around he reached out to take her from my arms. I let him take her from me and I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Look," I said, "I get why you keep pushing this, but-"
He cut me off in the middle of my sentence, "I don't think you do, otherwise you still wouldn't be with him" He said harshly.
"James..." I half-spoke, half-whispered. I extended my arm across the table to try and touch his hand, but he quickly pulled it back. I frowned at him while he continued to glare at me.
He laughed dryly, "Don't 'James...' me. You know it's not fair. You knew how I felt." Each word he said hurt worse than the last.
I didn't have anything else to say to him. He was right, I did know how he felt, but that doesn't mean I felt the same way. I feel like I have hurt him enough and it would be cruel to add that to the list.
He studied my face while waiting for me to give him a reply, or a simple gesture even, but I stayed still not saying anything, not changing my brooding expression.
"You know what, Rosalind? I know you've made up your mind already to be with him, but I'm still going to tell you how I feel."
I sighed, "I think you've done that already."
"No just listen to me, for once. Just listen," his words no longer sounded harsh, now they seemed longing, "if he is such a great guy, where was he while you were in New York being punched in the face by some guy who shows up out of the blue claiming to be your brother? Hmm? Where was he then? Where is he when you need someone to talk to? I'll tell you, he is out doing God knows what-"
Before he could even finish accusing Marshall of doing anything I stood up abruptly, causing him to stop talking. He looked at me at me unblinkingly. "I don't need you to tell me what I'm doing wrong, got it?" I snapped at him before angrily walking out of the small coffee shop.
[A/N Hey everybody, sorry this chapter is so short, but I've been gone for so long I just wanted to throw in a quick update. Honestly, these past few months have been so busy I completely forgot about this book, but I'm not quite ready to give it up yet so I'm going to try and keep updating. I don't think there will be that many more updates as of right now because I have a plan of what I want to happen, but things change. Anyways, I hope you're all doing well and that you have a good day. Sorry again for the disappearance.]
