Chapter 12:

Amarys and I stood at the rainbow tent entrance, tickets in hand.

"Over here Bree!" I recognized the voice as Claire's, and found my way over to the group of guys she was with.

Mike was standing next to her, (a little too close), a couple football players, Brett and Zach, stood there too, and finally Trevor.

I was so surprised I toppled backwards onto Amarys. Trevor laughed.

"Maybe it's me!" he said smiling.

I laughed lightly, but was still blushing uncontrollably.

"Hey Mike!" Amarys exclaimed.

"Um, hi there," he stuttered awkwardly.

Claire nudged her way in between them and playfully said, "Let's go have some fun!"

Brett and Zach were talking quietly to each other, before they both inched closer to Amarys.

"Have you ever won a stuffed caterpillar?" Brett asked innocently.

"Um, no," she said laughing softly.

They exchanged shocked glances.

"Well well well!" Zach tisked. "This will not do!"

"No it most certainly will not!" Brett chimed in.

They each beckoned her an arm, and Zach announced, "Let's go win Amarys a caterpillar!"

Amarys shot Mike an uneasy look, but he smiled and said, "Go on! I'm just gonna get some kettle corn and then I'll meet you over by the games!"

"Alright!" she exclaimed, returning back to her perky self.

"I'll go with you Mike!" Claire decided quickly. "I'm starving!"

"Okay," he said, smiling mischievously after seeing that Amarys had already taken off.

So there Trevor and I stood. Alone. Except for the fact that hundreds of other students surrounded us and constantly passed by.

"Ever gone on The Ring of Fire?" he finally asked, breaking our unintended staring contest.

I glanced over at the spinning red cage he was talking about. It's a newer ride made for two people. The people sit across from each other in seats, and are then spun upside down for almost 5 minutes. It actually looked kind of fun, although my stomach begged to differ.

"Nope," I replied.

"Well come on then!" he said, ushering me towards the line.

As I stood next to Trevor, with only 4 people in front of us, I could feel my palms getting sticky.

2 new people got on, and I really began to regret the churro I'd eaten when I arrived.

The next 2 got on and panic really set in. We were next. I started breathing quick short breaths and fidgeted with my hands, lots.

I almost let out a yelp as their ride came to a stop. The girls both looked really dizzy, especially the young freshmen girl. It wasn't really a surprise that she threw up almost instantly. At least it wasn't on the ride though.

As the sketchy looking man buckled me in, I regretted getting on. He probably has no idea what he's doing!

Trevor grinned and I weakly smiled back. Then with no warning, the insane spinning began.

I didn't scream, or cry, like I thought I would. The only thought on my mind was, 'please don't let me throw up on him!'

"How's it going!" Trevor yelled, distortedly.

"Not really in the mood for talking this second!" I yelled back.

"Would you at least open your eyes?"

"What does it matter to you?"

"I like your eyes!"

My murky puddle water colored eyes?

"No!" I shouted. Real great comeback Bree.

I was just about to scream out in defeat, when the cage came to a slow halt.

I could've cried, I was so overjoyed.

"You look like you were hit by a bus!" he pointed out as we went to go get snow cones.

"Really?" I gasped. "I was totally trying to look like a supermodel right now!" I complained.

"Haha!"

"I know I'm hilarious... Berry Blue please!" I said, diverting my attention to the girl at the window.

"Wow cocky much! I'll take a coconut mango."

"Okay!" the girl said. "4 dollars!"

"On me!" he shouted, slapping 4 ones onto the counter. She handed us our snow cones and we settled down on a nearby bench.

"Does Amarys like Mike?" Trevor randomly blurted out.

"I'm pretty sure, why?"

"Oh nothing..."

"Tell me!"

"I just think he's been acting kind of friendly around Claire, and as a friend I think you should warn Amarys."

Well boy did that make me feel guilty.

I took a big bite of shaved ice.

"I think she's a little busy with Zach and Brett right now," I said.

"Ha, yeah, but they're really desperate, so that's nothing serious."

"I see."

"Are you interested in anyone?"

"Not at the moment, no." I responded. "You?"

He took a big breath. "Well there is this one girl, but I think you know her too well."

"Come on! Tell me her name!"

"Well, the thing is..."

"Trev! Bree!" Zach panted. "We need to go. Amarys needs to be taken to the hospital."
