"Bree!" Claire shrieks in my ear as I pick up my cell. "I just had the most amazing conversation with Amarys!"

Seriously. She called me to brag about a conversation. Well that's annoying.

"I- uh, we, are going to be so popular!"
She giggles.

"How?" I ask flatly.

"A party! We'll throw a party!" She exclaims.

A party? "Um, Claire I don't think that's a good idea," I say slowly. "Remember our back to school party?"

I shudder at the thought. Practically the entire school was invited. And we got 5.

1 of which was Anthony.

"Okay... I agree, that was bad, but I've got a way to make this one awesome! I'm saying it's Amarys' party so they'll come!"

"Um, is Amarys ok with this?"

"Of course! She loves parties!" Claire insists.

"When is it?" I ask, reluctantly.

"This Friday!" she replies, beaming.

"That's in two days! There's no way you'll have enough time to invite people!"

"Oh don't you worry, we have loads coming! Perk of Hilary being on the school paper!"

"Hilary?" I say, surprised. "I thought you never wanted to be friends with one of Summer's clones!"

"Past clone!" she corrects me, "And plus, she's giving me all the dirt on Summer!"

I sigh, hoping that Claire realizes the hole she's digging herself into, and knows that when she finally falls through, there's no escaping.

=======================

After school, I stand in front of my mirror, applying the last bit of mascara for my date with Trevor tonight.

Once I get downstairs, I realize it's only 4:40 and Trevor won't be here until 5.

Just then, I get a text that reads,

Come out on the back porch.

It's from Anthony.

Anthony? I haven't talked to him in a while.

I see him every day on the bus, but he usually sits with this random guy now, whose name I don't even know.

We honestly haven't had a real conversation since I forgot about his art show. Still feeling pretty bad about that.

But he's been acting so weird lately! I mean, for somebody whose supposed to be my best friend!

He always sends me strange glances and is so awkward when I try to talk to him!

So it was really shocking when I walked out my back door to see him leaning against the fence.

"Hey," I say, clearing my throat.

"Hi Bree," he sighs.

"Uh, what's up?" I ask, really meaning, 'Why are you standing on my porch?'

He's quiet for a minute.

"Look, Bree we've been friends for forever, and you know, our friendship is something I've always cherished."

"Yeah..." I wonder where the heck this conversation is headed.

He looks me in the eyes now, taking a deep breath.

"Bree, I don't know when it started, high school probably," he begins.
