It starts with an argument, a betrayal. Erik never meant to betray Charlotte. But that doesn't make the effects any less horrible. It's his fault that Charlotte was in the hands of a mad scientist with a proclivity for experimenting on mutants. And so it's up to him to make this right.
Erik has to save Charlotte. Because he just can't live in this world without her.
