Is he really gone?

VII (Part 2)

It wasn't the second day and I already heard an alarm go, what was going on! I could hear my door unlock, Ava Paige was standing at the door. "We have to go Newt, Cranks are attacking us!", she was in fear. Cranks! What are those? I never heard of such thing. I went outside, what I seen corpses everywhere, there were broken equipment, blood on the walls. "Come on Newt, we got no time! I explain everything later!", she nearly yelled. She took me by her hand and pulled me towards her as she was walking a little child.

I came across with Thomas, he was armed with some guns. He pointed it at Ava Paige. "Let him go!", he yelled. What? Was she who tortured people? This can't be! She was so kind to me! "T-Thomas what are you doing?", I asked confused. "Newt, don't get fooled by her kindness, she is a monster! She was the one putting me under a shock therapy! She is torturing people! Come to me Newt!", he begged me. Ava Paige let me hand go. "I have no choice Newt, just go with him", she said calmly.

I ran towards Thomas, he lowered his gun and we ran the opposite direction. Then I seen them, these people almost looking like corpses, a black fluid going throught their veins up to their brains. They seemed really violent, had some superhuman strength. So these were these so called Cranks. Thomas shot them with out hesitation. "What's wrong with them!", I asked. "They infected with some unknown disease", Thomas responded. I nodded. Wait a second, where is his team? Don't tell me.

Then I woke up, I gasped heavily, it was all a dream, that was so weird, I seen some strange Cranks, whatever that was just a dream. I am sure Ava Paige won't harm me, it's impossible. I stood up and brushed my theeth and done some toilette business. Ok another day in this hospital, let's see what will happen.

The door unlocked and these men returned. "Let's go, breakfast is waiting for you", one of them said. I got dressed very quickly and followed the guys to the cafeteria. I got my tray and my food. I looked around and seen Thomas sitting there with his friends. I quickly went towards him. "Goodmorning", I said smiling. He looked at me heightened his head so he can look at me. "Oh hi Newt, take a seat", he suggested. I did so and sat down. "I had a dream", I started. Thomas looked at me and let his plastic fork lay on the tray. "Tell me about it", he said making himself ready to listen.

I told him my whole dream I had last night. He nodded, man he is a good listener. "That's an interesting dream, this all sounds like a sci-fi movie", he laughed. "As I said, it's just a dream, never said it will happen", I responded. "I know, I know, I never thought about that", Thomas interrupted me, while I wanted to add something. I started finally eating my breakfast. The breakfast was an english breakfast like we get it in the UK.

"So, you telling me you trust Ava Paige?", Thomas asked me eating too. "Yeah, I am sure she never will harm me, she promised", I responded. He sighed making a no with his head. "You are naiv, you have no idea what her real self is, Newt but you will find out soon", he simply said continuing to eat. "Newt, meet me at the basketball court after breakfast, I need to show you something", Thomas told me.

He finished his meal, placed his tray away and went towards the basketball court. I finished my meal afterwards and went to the court too. What did he wanted to show me, I am getting scared, I hope he is not going to rape me. Dammit Newt, why would he do that! I shook my head, getting that idea off.

I arrived at the court and he was waiting there. I approached him. "What's wrong Thomas, what you want to show me?", I asked curiously. He untighed the strings of his shorts slowly. What was the doing! Uh someone help me! He slowly pulled his pants down and showed me a blue place near his hip. "Ava Paige did this to me", he pointed at it. He pulled his pants up and tighted the strings back again. He showed me his hand, there were bruises everywhere. "This too", he added.

I can't believe she did to him, why would she even do such things, we are supposed to be healed. "Newt!", I heard some male voice calling my name. I turned around and seen the same guy from before. "Ava Paige is waiting for you!", he talked like he would shout at any moment. "See you later Thomas", I simply said following the guy. "What was he telling you?", the guy asked me while we were walking. I can't tell him that, no no. "He just talked about himself, nothing more", I lied. The guy didn't say anything at all.

We arrived in a room full of machines. "Oh my dear Newt, nice to see you", Ava Paige smiled very happily seeing me. "How are you doing today?", she asked me pointing her hand that I shall sit down. She looked at the assistant that he can go out. He did. "I am doing pretty well, I made new friends!", I responded. "Tell me more about that", she looked interested. "Well his name is Thomas, we are very good friends", I responded not knowing what to tell her.

"Thomas you say", she looked in some handbook. "Oh him! Right", she exclaims. She looks at his records. "Oh honey, his records are very bad, you should stay away from a person like him, you see Thomas is a very special person here, he does have depression but also other diseases, like he loves to revolt against things, we don't even understand, he is quite delusional", she explains. "But Mrs. Paige, he isn't like that at all, I been like two days with him now, seems like your records are kinda false", I tried to tell her. She smiled. "Newt, tell me one thing, are you a doctor here or am I the doctor?", she asked very sarcastically. "You are Mrs. Paige", I responded. "Of course I am! I finished my masters and doctorial decree in medical sciences, I know what I am doing", she started talking again.

"But Mrs. Paige! I been observing him! I swear he changed alot!", I tried again. "Alright, but let's not talk about him, it's about you right now, so you telling me that you been feeling better than before?", she asked me. "Yes, I feel like my depression is fading away. But, there is one problem Mrs. Paige", I added while responding to her question. "What is it my dear", she asked. "Sometimes I am hearing voices inside my head, they keep telling me that I shouldn't trust you, its annoying", I added.

She started thinking. I see her walk around just thinking. "That's new, it wasn't written in your records, I mean did you always have voices inside your head?", she asked wondering. "When I was home, I did have some minor occasions where voices would tell me to kill myself, that I am a no one, no one would love me", I explained. She sat down and started writing something down. "Why did you betray us Newt? Why did you tell her about us. You shouldn't have done that", I could hear 3 voices at the same time echoing. "STOP! SHUT UP!", I yelled. Ava Paige looked at me shocked. "Sorry, the voices came back", I exhaled.

She put her pen down. "My poor darling, I will make sure to help you as much as I can, I promise, these voices will go in no time", she looked at me like I was her child or something. I smiled naively. "Thank you Mrs. Paige", I responded to that. She wrote something on a paper. "Take this and bring this to the pharmacy, my assistent will get you there, just give her the paper and she will give you this medicine", she gave me a piece of paper with something written down. I nodded.

The assistent came in and took me to the pharmacy after Ava Paige telling him his task. The assistant looked kinda tall, even taller than me, he had black hair, they were short but longer then Thomas's hair. He also had a grown beard. We arrived at the pharmacy. I gave the woman on the counter the little piece of paper. She nodded and handed me two packs of my medication. She explained me how to use it. "What now?", I asked the tall guy. "Well let's go to your room, leave the medication there and then you can go do some activities.", he suggested. "Alright sure", I agreed
