I walk away towards the cafe on campus. I jump over the little fence and sit down next to my friend Justin who’s sitting there with his girlfriend Brooke. “That took some time”, Justin says as he puts his arm around Brooke. “Want a cigarette?”. I nod and he gives one to me. As I light it I see how that blonde girl and her friend walks past the cafe laughing. I follow her with my sight as she walks away with the other girl. Her ice blonde hair bounces on her shoulders and I see how she glances back at me. I give her a teasing smile and she looks away quickly. “What’re you smiling at?”, Brandon asks. “Stop staring at that Latina’s butt”. “I’m not”, I say annoyed and turn against the table again. I look at them all with their eyes glued to their phones. We just met and I don’t really plan on getting close to them. I’ve learned that a long time ago, if you get close to people you can lose them. And that is the worse pain in the entire world, trust me I know. But that girl with the crystal grey eyes, I don’t wanna get close to her but I have this feeling that I have to at least know her. “Hello earth to Marcus”, Justin says and waves in front of my face. “Are you coming or not?”. “Huh?”, I ask confused. “But listen”, he sighs and rolls his eyes at me. “My big brother is throwing a party at the fraternity house tonight and we’re all going, are you?”. “Sure”, I say without thinking. “What’s her name?”. “Who?”, Justin asks confused. “That girl”, I say and point. “The blondie”. “Oh that’s Freja, we went to elementary school together”, he says. “A real b*tch who thinks she’s better than everyone else”. I wanna talk back but I keep my mouth shut ‘cause I don’t wanna fight with Justin. If you’re smart you stay on his good side. That’s what Brandon told me at least when we first bumped into Justin earlier today. “Why do you even ask about her?”, Brooke asks. “I mean just look at her”. “You have to admit Brooke”, Justin says. “She doesn’t look bad”. She gives him an annoyed stare and snorts as she blows her cigarette. “I’ll see you guys tonight”, I say and walk away.
