Chapter 4

I gently open the door to her office and step in, closing the door behind me. Needles looks.. exhausted? Her hair is not the same like it usually is and she seems more alive. "You wanted to see me?" I ask her. She nods and points to the chair in front of her desk, signaling me to sit down. As I sit down she slides a file towards me and clears her throat before speaking. "As you may have seen or heard, a patient has gotten rolled in today. A patient in your department," She says and I grab the file, opening it to see what's inside. "Raja Gemini. 20 years old." I see pictures of the black haired girl who I saw on the stretcher and even a mugshot, but she looks much younger there.

"What's she here for?" I ask, not looking up from the file. "Drug overdose," Sharon replies. "if she survives this, you'll become her private nurse and you can finally show me what you really got." She says, a smile on her face. "Will I get removed from the other departments?" I ask her, finally closing the file and looking up at her. "You will be removed from the elderly section but you will stay at the children's section, together with miss Mattel." She replies and I nod, standing up to walk away again. "Thanks for this, really." I say to her as I open the door. "Yeah, yeah. Don't sweat it. Now get out and back to work." She says and I quickly get out and lock the door before walking back to my desk.

I sit down in my chair and take another look at the file. She's only 20, such a young age. As I read some of the papers I hear someone coming closer and when I look up, I see Willam. "Hey you." She says to me, leaning on the counter with one arm and handing me a coffee. "Thanks, you alright after last night?" I ask her with a chuckle making her glance at me. "I'm alright, I don't really get hangovers. Whatcha reading there?" She asks me, pointing at the file. "Info about my new patient." I say and hold up the picture of her, taking a few sips of my coffee. "Oooh, she's pretty! Which room is she in?" I chuckle at her. "Right now they're still trying to save her life." I reply and she looks kinda shocked. "Rough." She simply says and I just nod. "Wanna go for a smoke?" I hear her ask after a while of silence. I've already been for one not too long ago, but why not. "Sure." I reply as I put the file away and walk with Willam towards the elevator.

"I saw you met Trixie already. She's a special one, don't you think?" Willam says as she lights her cigarette, offering me one. I light mine before I reply. "Mhm. She's so naturally happy. But what's between her and Katya? I know she likes her, but.." I ask and I see Willam chuckle. "One reason, Alaska. She doesn't want Katya to talk to Trixie and she wants Trixie to avoid Katya at all costs." She replies. That explains her strange behaviour in the elevator earlier. "Sounds like a pretty boring relationship if you ask me. If my partner would request me not to talk to others I'd so get out of there." I say and blow out a cloud of smoke. "Damn right." Willam agrees with me. Who wouldn't want to talk to that happy, pink orb of pure happiness? "You got a partner?" Willam asks me and I shake my head with a very faint smile. "Too busy, I work here 6 days a week, 4 of them I work nightshifts. I just have no time for a relationship." I explain and put my cigarette out before flicking it over the railing. I see Willam nod as she does the same.

Willam and I went back down and I'm already sitting behind my desk again, copying the info thats in the file to the special program in our system. I can't stop looking at her picture, she's really gorgeous. I wonder what the mugshot is for. Probably shoplifting or something wacky like that. After a little while I hear someone clearing their voice and as I look up from my screen I see Needles standing there. "Good news, they were able to save her. She'll ring the bell eventually." She says and looks at me with what I think is a smile. "Thanks for telling me, I'll do my absolute best." I reply. "Just do your best." She says, rolling her eyes as she walk away. I salute her like a soldier, making Trixie who was watching from across the hallway laugh. She comes closer, leaning against the counter. "You really don't like her, do you?" She asks me with a  giggle. "Not really, no. She's just always angry and mean!" I reply making her laugh again, even snort. "Well, the only two bosses you have are bad bosses and terrible bosses." She replies. "And she exceeds both of those positions." I say, cracking a laugh at my own sayings.

"So you're gonna be that new girl her private nurse? Good job!" She asks me. "I think its just because she's a teen, Needles wants me to show her what I really got." I say, 'really got' in air quotations. "That's what you're specialized in right? You'll do just fine." She tries to reassure me and to my surprise it actually helps. I feel my buzzer going off all of a sudden, it reading 'room 30B'. "I think that's her, I got no one in room 30B." I say, slightly mumbling but Trixie managed to hear what I said. "I'll walk you there!" She says and waits for me to get up. We walk together through the very long corridor, at the end the little sign saying 30B. Trixie walks away and gives me two thumbs up.

I slowly push open the door to her room, as she sees me she immediately lays on her side. I close the door behind me and walk closer, sitting on the edge of her bed. "Raja?" I softly ask her but the doesnt budge. "I'm Raven, I'm going to be your nurse for the time you're here." I explain but there's still very little movement. "Sweetie, I need to know why you pressed the button or I won't be able to help you." I say and she finally looks at me. "I don't need help. No one has ever tried to help me." She softly states before laying back on her side. I stand up and sigh, scratching my forehead. She's going to be a tough one to get through to.
