After talking to the girl for what seems like ages and constantly explaining to her that I'm here for her to get better, she's finally chosen to actually look at me. She looks afraid, like a deer in headlights. Almost like she's about to burst into tears. I notice this and immediately act on it, sitting right next to her and holding one of her hands in between mine. "Oh, honey.." I softly say and she starts sniffling softly. I feel more than bad for this girl, whatever happened to her shouldn't have. I pull one hand away and I feel her tense up but I assure her I'm still here. I grab a pack of tissues out of my pocket and hand her one. She takes it from me and dabs her eyes dry.

We sit like this for a little while, her hand giving my hand soft squeezes from time to time as she looks out the window. "Do you want something to eat?" I carefully ask her and after a few seconds she turns her head towards me and nods. "I'll be right back, then." I say to her and walk out of the room, closing the door behind me. I let out a big sigh as I walk towards the little kitchen where we prepare food. I make her a simple sandwich with cheese and cut it in half before walking back. I softly open the door to her room again, afraid to startle her and close it behind me. I put the plate down on a table next to her bed. Before she even begins eating she looks at me, beady tears in the corners of her eyes. "How long do I have to stay here?" She asks me. "Until I think you're strong enough to go home." I reply, it might sound harsh but its the truth. "And you'll come everytime I press that bell? No one else?" She asks me and I tilt my head a little bit. "Maybe some doctors to run tests every once in a while but other than that, its just me you'll be seeing." I answer and she nods. "So if there's anything, you can press the button. Alright?" I say to her and she nods and smiles.

I walk out of the room again and walk towards Sharon's office. As I come closer I hear multiple voices in her office so I politely knock on the door. She opens the door just so that she's visible. "Yes?" She asks me, her voice loud and a little groggy. "I wanted to ask if its okay if I change tomorrow's 7-12 am shift to be tonight's nightshift." I ask her and she raises an eyebrow at me. "Why?" She questions. "Because I don't want that girl to be here alone on her first night." I simply reply. "I see. If you can get someone to work for you tomorrow, sure." She says and actually sounds nice. I nod and walk away, needing to find someone to work for me. I want to ask Katya but I just lashed out to her so... that won't work. Courtney and Willam both already work the nightshift, Alaska I can't find anywhere and Trixie is just too adorable to ask such things, if you get what I mean. I walk through the hallways thinking about what I'm going to do. I decide to just suck it up and try Katya.

I try to find her by asking coworkers where she is but I happen to run into her by random. "Hey!" I quickly say to her and she looks up at me. "Yes?" She asks me, crossing her arms. "Wanna switch shifts? Work my morning shift tomorrow and I'll work your nightshift tonight." I say and I see her think. "And what's in it for me?" She asks me, sort of chuckling. "I'll go down on my knees for you," I say with a wink which makes Katya laugh loudly. "I'll buy lunch for you tomorrow?" is my real offer. "Sure, deal." She says and I cheer and clap. "Thank you!" She looks at me acting all excited and cracks a smile. "Why exactly do you want the nightshift so badly?" She asks me. "It's my new patient her first night. And she's rather young so I don't want her to be alone here." I reply and Katya nods like she understands. "That's sweet, the boss will appreciate that." She says to me, her red lips curling up into a warm smile. "Oh, right! I gotta tell her I found replacement." I say and quickly hurry away after thanking Katya once again.

Sharon's office is open and I just walk inside, which startles her. "Jesus christ, heard of knocking?" She says and furrows her brows. "Sorry. I just came to tell you I've found replacement for tomorrow morning." I say, fiddling with the buttons on my blouse. "Oh. Who?" She asks me as she stands up and walks towards the window. "Katya will replace me tomorrow." I reply, just awkwardly standing there. "Alright, anything else?" She asks and turns around, staring at me with crossed arms. Sharon isn't ugly, she's actually really pretty. She's just scary and very intimidating. "I think not." I say and as I want to turn around and leave she speaks again. "How's the girl? She's very timid isn't she?" She sounds concerned. "Yes, she is. But I got her to talk which is something. And I got her to eat something. At the moment she's just very emotional about what's going on." I say and I can see Sharon nod. "Good job. I knew you just needed an extra push." She says with a big smile on her face. I smile back and turn around to walk away.

About 5 minutes later -just when I wanted to go for a smoke- my buzzer goes off and I see it's Raja's room. I quicken my pace and, still taking a good minute before I'm there. I gently push open the door and I see her staring out the window. "Yes?" I softly ask her and she looks at me. "There's nothing, I just wanted some company." She states and I walk closer. "I'd love to keep you company all day but sadly I can't." I say with a hint of sadness in my voice. I sit down on the edge of her bed lean on the metal end of the bed. "Tell me something about yourself?" She suddenly softly asks me and I raise an eyebrow. "Why?" I chuckle. "I like to know people if I have to spend a long time with them." She admits and smiles warmly. It makes sense. I'd want the same thing. "Alright. I'm Raven, I'll be 30 in 3 months. I've worked at another hospital before I came here. My favorite food is homemade pasta and I've always wanted a cat." I say and see her look at me with wide eyes. "What?" I ask and laugh softly. "You don't look that old, I would've guessed around 25." She answers and I feel a blush creeping onto my cheeks. "Thanks, that's the nicest thing someone has said to me in a while." I say to her which makes her smile widely. I look at her and see a different girl from when I tried to talk to her. She seems more relaxed and a-ok with the situation. She'll be alright.
