Chapter 2.2 Need no introduction

Matteo dug his other hand into his pocket and slowly pulled out the jewelry so that it fell gracefully over his hand, where it glittered and sparkled against the tanned dark skin of his hand. 

"Ayan." He sent her a mocking look. "Masaya kana?"

Sarah felt anything but happy. 

She was used to respect and adoration. She certainly wasn't used to men who are unashamed and arrogant. Who gave abrupt orders and broke into strange houses with ease and didn't seem a bit bothered by it. 

"Ikaw dapat ang masaya." she said. "Masaya dahil hindi mo nawala ang mga yan, lalo pa't higit ang halaga niyan kesa sa trabaho mo!"

Matteo smiled. 

It was an observation intended to put him firmly in his place, but Miss Beauty would soon discover that he was a man who did not fit into tradition.

He slid the jewelry back casually into his pocket. 

"Tama," he agreed innocently. "Ayaw natin na isipin nila na tinakas ko ang kwintas at ibenta sa black market, di ba?"

"Now, let's see if we can find a candle and spare batteries somewhere. We need to get ourselves dry, but first I guess we'd better check out the rest of the house." he said.

Her teeth were chattering. "Sa pag-asa na makakita.....ng ano?"

A dark sense of humor made him consider making a joke about dead bodies, but in view of the tears he thought he'd better not try. 

The trouble with women was that they always let their imaginations run away with them.

"Para malaman, Ms Geronimo, kung anong karangyaan ang maiaalok ng bahay na ito ."

"Sarah, tawagin mo ako sa una kong pangalan," she hesitated. 

How strange it seemed, to be introducing themselves like this. 

"I guess I'd better introduce myself," he said. "It's Guidicelli, Matteo Guidicelli." 

It was an unusual name. Maybe that was why it suited him. Again, she felt the need to re-establish boundaries. "Guidicelli.....Italian?"

"Interesting as my name must be to you," he said, "I'm cold, so why don't we postpone this discussion until we've had a look around? Want to go and explore?"

"May pagpipilian ba ako?" she said.
