The Gem Reaper

     It had been a week since all Homeworld gems where told to evacuate. Zircon since that time had been more withdrawn, and crueler.

     Whenever anyone would approach her she would snap instantly, drawing her weapon and poofing them on the spot. The first to suffer this was poor Pip who just wanted to make sure her idol was alright. She barely got a word out before Zircon's scythe sliced through her physical form and sent her gem crashing to the ground.

Zircon only scoffed and walked on, her eyes dead. She kept replaying that last moment in her head over and over, making scenarios where maybe Chrysoberyl would still be with her but, every time she did she was sent back to the harsh reality where it wasn't true. Zircon knew that if Chrysoberyl was hurt it was her fault. The first mission that she failed, was a mission to protect the one who makes her complete. Zircon did not want to stay away from earth, she wanted to head back as soon as they left the atmosphere but no one listened. Zircon was moderated Nicky on the way back to Homeworld, just to be sure she wouldn't poof the entire crew and passengers.

The enter way there Zircon stood where she was when the shuttle left the Earth's atmosphere. She couldn't believe it, she still couldn't believe it.

Zircon was in the middle of another scenario when she bumped into an object that fell over and shattered all over the ground. Zircon stood blankly at the mess before her, then looking around her eyes widen in shock. She was standing in Chrysoberyl's old lab. Zircon began to look around as she discovered some open files on a desk near a microscope. She opened the file and began to read the reports.  

 The mission to earth was rather interesting. Not only was I surrounded by a whole new planet just waiting to be discovered, I was accompanied by a unique gem. Zircon solider, from facet 2001 cut 0802, more commonly known as The Gem Reaper was asked to guard me...

A small chuckle left Zircon's lips as she continued to read how Chrysoberyl described the plants, animals, and their first interactions. Zircon cringed slightly as she recollected how rude she was to the one who would soon mean everything to her. She wished she could go back in time and changed how she acted, maybe then Chrysoberyl would still be by her side, or if she just wasn't as harsh at all. 

"Zircon." A silvery voiced called. Turning to the entryway of the lab Zircon saw the owner of that voice, the gem who in some aspects made her mission fail. Nicky walked over to her extending her hand. "Let's go." 

Zircon growled as she slapped away her hand, glaring at her with pure hatred. "Why would I want to go anywhere with you?" her words like venom. 

Nikky let her hand drop to the side, shrugging. "I guess you don't want to go see if your little 'Gem' is safe." A small smirk began to form on her face as she turned her back toward Zircon walking away.

"WAIT!" Zircon called out rushing after her. "What do you mean?" She looked to Nikky with a questionable look on her face. 

"We can go back to earth now. Yellow want's the Reaper Squad to go and scout for possible survivors... Homeworld or Crystal Gem."

Zircon's eyes lit up as she heard this. She practically sprinted to the loading bay in hopes to see Chrysoberyl again.  

-Time Skip-

The ships descended back from where they evacuated nearly a week ago. Many gems laid in the dirt, Zircon was the first to leave the ship. She walked out into the graveyard, looking at all the different gem none of them seeming to be damaged. "HEY!" Zircon called back to the ship where Nicky and Pip where now exiting. "Look's likes the diamond's attack didn't work!" Zircon bent over and picked up an amethyst. "They look perfe-" As Zircon displayed the gem to the others it began to take form. A horrible screech was heard from it as it tried turning into its humanoid form, only to morph into a huge dog-like creature but with a stump where it's head should be. Zircon stepped back in shock as the others watched in horror. 

They were told the attack would cause great harm to those affected by it but this, this was awful. Zircon was in the middle of a thought as the beast swatted at her, sending her flying into the ground nearby. 

"ZIRON!" Pip and Nicky yelled in unison. They both rushed to her aid but Zircon stayed in the dirt, her mind racing with a new fear. Chrysoberyl was now a beast, forced to live in a horrible state for the rest of her days. 

Pip and Nicky attempted to speak to the beast but all it did was roar and charge at them. Zircon thought about Chrysoberyl, in how she would be. They could all sense that this was no longer an intellectual, this was a scared beast trying to survive. 

Zircon lousy stood up and looked as the two gems fought the beast. They won easily and quickly shattered it. "Chrysoberyl..." Zircon called out weakly as she slowly stood up. "Chrysoberyl." She called out in a normal tone, her eyes scanning the ground in search of the star-shaped gem. "Chrysoberyl!" Zircon yelled out walking around, she needed to find her, she needed to find her now. "CHRYSOBERYL!" Zircon screamed, now running around the area in search of her. Pip and Nicky watched her in disbelieve, it made them feel something for Zircon they never thought they would. 

They pitied her. 

They pitted how she wouldn't see this gem whole seemed to mean a lot to her, but even if she was too. They pitied how that they wouldn't be together regardless. On homeworld, other gems can't be together. No matter what, others wouldn't allow it. Because others thought it was wrong, because others where uncomfortable with how others were able to be happy, the forbade it. It was unheard of for two different types of gems to be together, only gems of the same origin. That's just how it was on homeworld, and they couldn't change it. But, they knew Zircon realized this and they knew, she didn't care. 

Why would she? Zircon viewed others as defects but Chrysoberyl changed that. Chrysoberyl made her feel things she wouldn't have if she didn't walk into Zircon's life. Zircon was already used to the stares and demeaning remarks toward her, but she could care less. She knew that those who spoke badly about her we're just jealous that they didn't have her freedom. The freedom to be herself. She didn't have to kiss up to Holly Blue, a commanding officer, or the Diamonds. Zircon was able to be herself, as sadistic as she was, and still be useful. And still, be accepted. While those who obeyed every command, every law, and did every single job correctly, were simply forgotten. 

Zircon was able to be herself, she found herself, and was still valued by the diamonds. That's why all the other reapers respected her so much and followed her, even though it was an order from the diamonds they wished to someday experience that freedom Zircon had. But, right now. In this moment, all they did was pity her. 

The once great and feared Gem Reaper was running around in search of a chrysoberyl who will more than likely be a monster. What could make a person like Zircon act like this? What could cause a feared warrior to be running around searching for a simple chrysoberyl? What could it b-

"CHRYSOBERYL!" Zircon called out one final time before collapsing onto her knees, tears fell down her cheeks as she whimpered out 'Chrysoberyl' one last time. She kneeled there, shattered in her own way, her hand slowly began to morph. Her fingers become long and skinny as Pip and Nikky began to run over a small sea foam light began to shine from the ground. 

Zircon looked up and saw the familiar Star shape gem began to float off the ground. Once again the from was human like before morphing into a huge lion-like creature. Zircon's hand become normal once more as she reached out to it. "Chrysoberyl..." Zircon called out hopefully. Just before the creature was about to materialize it began to shift once more. It shrunk greatly, becoming more of a house cat size. Zircon looked at the creature in awe before calling out once more. "Chrysoberyl?" The two other's stopped in their tracks, watching this event unfold. 

The small feline creature let out a meow. It looked confused as it then looked around, seeing all the gem on the floor it quickly rushed to Zircon. It rested in her lap as it trembled, Zircon's tears began to flow more as she wrapped her body around the feline. "Chrysoberyl... You're still alive..." Zircon began to tremble as she clung to the fluffy creature for dear life. "I'm so glad I found you.."
