Mark's Perspective:
Mark and Jack both got up from their seats and walked out of the classroom. As they walked to the dean's office, they both stayed completely silent. They didn't even look at each other. Once they got to the office, they saw that Mark's, Jack's, David's, Ben's, and Jake's parents were there, as well as the three boys themselves. Well, Jack's mom was there anyway. Mark had no idea where Jack's dad was, but he didn't look too much into it. Mark heard Jack gulp before sitting down, and Mark quickly sat down himself. After a couple seconds of silence the dean finally spoke up. "Well, now that your all here, I'd like to discuss the rest of what had happened with the five of you boys" the dean said. Mark heard the three boys grumble in disappointment, and Mark assumed that they were upset about the meeting not being over yet. Then Mark suddenly realised that the dean had said "the rest of" when he mentioned the meeting. "Wait, the rest of?" Mark asked quizzically. The dean nodded and said, "yes, Mark. I said that because the three boys here had just finished telling me about their side of the story. And I was informed that you were involved in the situation, is that correct Mark?" the dean asked him. Then Mark realised that the dean was talking about Jack getting beaten up. Mark looked over at Jack, who looked like he had just been food poisoned, then he looked back at the dean, nodding to confirm that he had been involved in the situation. After he nodded though his parents looked at him with death glares, and Mark got worried. What did the boys tell them? Suddenly the dean spoke up again. "Now, Mark, I was told by these boys that you had came over to them and that you had beaten them up. Is that true?" Suddenly Mark's expression turned from worry to confusion. "Wait, what? No, I didn't beat them up. What happened was that I got on their case for beating up Jack" he said while the dean gave the three boys death glares. "Well," Jack's mom spoke up, "I think we should hear Jack's side of the story" she said. And as soon as she said that Mark saw Jack's head perk up, the look of sickness turning to a look of anxiousness. "W-well," Jack started, "I-I was just walking to first period, when the three of them started picking on me. I just decided to ignore it though, cause all they were doing was calling me names and making fun of me. But, when I tried to leave, they stopped me and..." Jack suddenly stopped in the middle of his sentence. "And?" the dean asked. "A-and, th-they..." Jack stuttered, his eyes welling up with tears as he remembered the horrible event. Mark saw Jack crying and he got even more worried than before. Mark wanted to comfort him, but he didn't want everyone to see him comfort Jack. It would be embarrassing. "Alright, that's enough. You don't have to say anymore if it upsets you Jack." the dean said, noticing that remembering the event clearly upset him. "O-okay" Jack said, wiping the tears from his eyes. Once Jack was calmed down the dean cleared his throat and spoke up again. "Well, now that we've heard Jack's side of the story, I think it's time we hear Mark's" the dean said, slowly looking over at Mark as he spoke. Mark looked up, and noticed that everyone was staring at him, including his parents. Mark gulped, nervous now that he realised his parents were staring at him with a death glare in their eyes. Mark always seemed like a tough kid at school, but at home he was terrified of his parents. He had no idea why, he just was. After a couple seconds of waiting, Mark finally said something. "Well, I was just in first period, waiting for class to start, when I heard noises coming from outside. So, I left the classroom, and I saw Jack getting beaten up by David Jake and Ben, so I went over to them to help Jack." he told everyone. Mark suddenly realised that his parents had raised their eyebrows, but Mark couldn't tell if that was good or bad. "Okay, so then what?" the dean asked. Mark gulped and continued. "Um, so I got the boy's attentions, and, I was angry, so I guess I ended up giving them a death glare, and, once they realised that I was mad, they ran off." Mark said, looking up at his parents and realising that they were smiling, which gave Mark a sense of relief. "Well, is that all?" the dean asked. Mark shook his head. "Well, almost. After they ran off I tried to help Jack up, but he ran away too." Mark finished, looking up at his parents again, who were surprisingly still smiling. Finally, after a lot of silence, Mark's mom spoke up. "Well, I'm glad that you helped your friend Mark." she said, pleased by her son's actions. Mark suddenly realised what she had said, and he quickly corrected her. "Oh, uh, actually, he, he's not my friend. I-I just wanted to help" he said, but once he said that he immediately regretted saying it, because he realised that Jack had tensed up. Mark sighed and mentally scolded himself for hurting Jack's feelings, cause he knew that that's what he had done. "Oh, well, I'm glad that you helped anyway" Mark's mom said. Mark nodded looking down at the ground now. "Well," the dean started to say, "Now that we've gotten that cleared up, I would like to know why Jack had ran away from the school and away from Mark." the dean stated. Suddenly everyone looked at Jack, and Jack looked up at everyone, still with a weak expression on his face. "W-well, I ran away from the school because I didn't want to get beaten up again, and plus I was injured really badly." Jack said. "But why didn't you call your mom instead of running all the way home?" the dean asked. "I-I didn't think about it." Jack said, looking down again. "Okay, so that's cleared up, but why did you run away from Mark when he was just clearly trying to help you?" the dean asked. Jack sighed and said, "I don't know, I was just scared I guess." he said quietly. "Scared of Mark or scared of something else?" the dean asked quizzically. Jack gulped and said, "I-I don't wanna say" Jack said, his voice getting quieter. Suddenly, Jack's mom spoke up again. "Um, actually, I think it's because I told Jack to stay away from Mark because I didn't want Mark being a bad influence on Jack. But," she said, looking at Mark, "I guess I was wrong about you Mark. I'm sorry for thinking you were such a bad kid." she finished. Mark was surprised by what she said, but he said it was okay and that he didn't mind. After he said that he looked over at Jack to see how he was doing, but the state that Jack was in made Mark more concerned. Jack was all tensed up and the sick look was back on his face. Mark sighed, knowing that he couldn't comfort Jack right now, otherwise he'd probably get picked on by possibly everyone in the school for having a "soft side". "Okay, well, now that officially everything is cleared up, boys," the dean started up again, looking over at David Ben and Jake in the middle of his sentence. "I think it's only fair that you apologize to Jack, and that you get suspended from school for a while." the dean finished. After the dean said that the three boys sighed and looked over at Jack and apologized. Mark sighed out of disappointment though because he knew they didn't mean it. He wanted to speak up but he didn't want to accidentally cause any more trouble, so he kept his mouth shut. "Alright, thank you boys" the dean said looking over at Jack now. "Now, Jack, do you accept their apology?" the dean asked. Jack didn't respond, he just nodded. "Alright, well, now that everything's settled, I would like Mark and Jack to return to class. And as of you three boys," the dean said, pointing at David Jake and Ben. "You three are suspended for the rest of the month" he finished. Mark secretly smiled to himself, glad that the boys are finally getting what they deserve. Mark looked over at Jack, who was smiling to himself too, which made Mark glad to know that Jack was finally happy. "Aright, Mr. and Mrs. Fischbach and Mcloughlin, you may now return home if you want." the dean said. Both Jack's and Mark's parents got up and went over to them. Jack's parents hugged him and told them they loved him before they went off, and Mark's mom did the same thing. Mark's dad however, just pat him on the back and said he was proud of him, which made Mark gleam with pride. Once Mark's and Jack's parents had left the dean dismissed the three boys and their parents, and then he dismissed Mark and Jack shortly after.
The meeting was over.
As Mark and Jack walked back to first period, they weren't silent like they were leaving the classroom. They both talked about how easily the meeting blew over, and they laughed and joked about David Jake and Ben getting suspended for the whole month. Once they got back to the classroom though they stayed silent, paying attention to the lesson. Near the end of the lesson though, Mark wrote down his number on a slip of paper, with a little note at the bottom. Once the bell rang, Mark set the piece of paper down on Jack's side of the desk, and ran off, looking back and winking at Jack before he left officially.
Jack's Perspective:
Jack looked down at the paper, and then up at Mark, who had winked at him before he left, which made Jack blush slightly. Jack looked down at the paper and read what was on it.
(XXX) XXX-XXXX
Let's try this again ;)
Jack smiled and put the paper in his pocket and walked out of the classroom, continuing the rest of his day happily, knowing that as soon as he got home, he was going to call Mark.
