The next morning I woke up and took an extra long shower, I shaved everything for the first time in months, washed my hair, moisturized-everything I could to avoid the inevitable conversation I was going to have to have at breakfast. I even applied some light make-up to stall for time. My best option here would be to lie, deny knowledge of my bizarre statement and play off the door breaking as the old house putting pressure on it or something. Or maybe I should play the victim? Demand answers as to how the door broke and act all shaken. Well, that last part is true at least, so I'm not technically lying.
I dressed in a baggy jumper and some jeans and made my way downstairs. Lorie had been woken by her brothers this morning, so I let her sit on my lap as I ate my breakfast. Which only consisted of a croissant and a banana.
"Is that all you're having?" Nicolae asked.
"Yeah, I'm not that hungry," I replied, for once, I wasn't lying.
"Are you alright after last night, Ophelia?" Peter asked, looking worried.
"Yeah, I'm still a little shocked but I'm fine," I replied, "but there are certain parts I don't remember."
"What do you mean?" Nicolae asked.
"Like, I don't know, parts of the event are hazy," I lied, "I remember getting water and going back to my room, but I don't know why I stopped in the hallway so long, or what I saw with the door."
Technically that last part wasn't a lie; I really have no idea what happened.
"Do you remember us being there?" Peter asked.
"Yeah, I remember you all being there, but the other details are kinda hazy," I answered, "I don't know how I got from the hall to my room last night."
"So, you don't remember saying anything to us last night?" Drogo asked.
"No," I replied, shaking my head, "Did I say something?"
"Yeah, but it didn't make a lot of sense," Nicolae soothed, "I'm sure it was the shock of the event."
I could tell they doubted me, but they seemed to be okay with it. It really made me wonder what they were hiding down there.
"Is the door going to be fixed soon?" I asked, "How did it even break like that in the first place?"
They looked at each other and Nicolae spoke, "We don't know, this is an old house, Ophelia, it could be a sign we have some structural problems we need to investigate."
I nodded, satisfied with the answer, "I have a friend who lives a couple towns over who specializes in houses like this, I could call him and ask him to investigate?" I offered.
"That's kind of you Ophelia, but we have a guy we call at hand," Nicolae replied.
I nod then turn to Lorie, "Shall we play outside this morning?"
She nods and smiles leading me outside to play on her swing.
"Push me higher!" she squealed.
After about 30 minutes she was bored of the swing and wanted to go behead her princess dolls in her room with her guillotine. I was effectively dismissed for the afternoon. I went back to my room and began using Lories measurements for the material. I decided on a pastel pink for the surface of the dress and white material for the petticoats. I sowed the dress and petticoats using my sewing machine but spent a few hours hand stitching the details into the dress and attaching the petticoats under the skirt. I sewed the ribbon ties into the back of the dress.
As I was sewing pearls into the front of the bodice there was knock at the door. Without looking up I called, "Come in!"
The opened and I heard a voice say, "Is that Lorie's dress?"
